So, Kylie Jenner Is The Second Richest Member Of The Kardashian Fam

$

You can think whatever you want about Kylie Jenner, but you have to admit the girl knows how to hustle.

After all, while she's the youngest (adult) member of the Kardashian family, she is also its second richest, Forbes reported.

Jenner was included in the publication's 2017 "30 Under 30" list in the area of "Retail and E-Commerce," because of the incredible success of both her cosmetics line and apparel line with big sister Kendall Jenner.

At 19, she is also the youngest person to be featured on the list this year.

"The reality-TV star's Kylie Cosmetics line has gone from strength to strength, with each incarnation of her $29 Lip Kits selling out upon release," Forbes wrote. "Sources close to the teenager suggest the glosses did 7 figures in revenues in 2016 alone. Jenner also puts her name to an apparel line, alongside model sister Kendall."

Jenner has a long way to go to keep up with her half-sister Kim K., however. Last year, Forbes reported that the cosmetics mogul earned about $18 million while Kim earned $51 million.

But then again, considering how hard Jenner works, maybe she'll close that gap sooner than we think.

Michelle Obama's Final Appearance As FLOTUS Will Be With Jimmy Fallon

The Obamas' time in the White House is quickly approaching its end. And in honor of the iconic family's final days as the most desirable neighbors, Michelle Obama is returning to the small screen one final time.

Michelle will appear on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon next week, wrapping up her days as the veggie-loving, book-reading FLOTUS, Entertainment Weekly reports. It will be her third time appearing on the late-night show, and based on her last two visits, we're all in for a treat.

In 2014, she starred alongside Fallon and Will Ferrell as an "Ew!" girl. Then, in 2015 she led the greatest mom dance (for the second time). I'm crossing my fingers that we get a little dancing, an "Ew!" or two, and a lot of side-eye. Hopefully Fallon realizes the importance of this episode, and makes it one for the books.

The episode airs Wednesday, Jan. 11 at 11:35 p.m. ET on NBC.

This Wine Review Is Too Funny To Be True

Some people take their wine very, very seriously. Before they open a bottle, they want to know about the wine's tannins, legs, and what it pairs well with. Others, well, we care a little less about all that and are really just looking for a wine that will help us unwind and maybe have a few laughs. If you fall into that second category, Reddit just shared the wine review you've been looking for all your life.

Yesterday, a Redditor named DeletedFor posted a photo of a wine review card to the r/funny subreddit, and it looks like the type of adult beverage we need a glass of right away. Not only does it tell you what a drinker named Jeff W, thinks of the wine, but it also gives some classy pairing recommendations, we'd love to try. Check it out.

My favorite wine review ever at a store. from funny

Unfortunately for those of us that really wanted to get drunk like a suburban mom while watching Desperate Housewives — doesn't that sound like an ideal evening? — this is actually a joke review. After some digging, we found that it was written by a guy named Jeff Wysaski as part of a project he calls Obvious Plant. The point of Obvious Plant, according to Fast Company, is to make people laugh by planting fake signs in various public spaces. This wine review is actually part of a series put together by Wysaski back in 2015. Anyone who likes to have fun with their wine will appreciate the series, and we bet, if you try hard enough, you can make this particular review a reality with any wine you chose.

Amazon May Soon Have Its Own Athleisure Line

If we're being honest, we already buy pretty much everything on Amazon. (And we mean everything.) As of last year, the retailer began ramping up its in-house fashion offerings and overall branding, launching a millennial-geared home shopping program and bringing on street style favorites like Olivia Palermo for cheeky campaigns. Reports say it's poised to become the #1 clothing seller in the U.S. this year, and it's clearly not messing around: According to Recode, Amazon is about to take over the athleisure world, too.

Much like how news broke of its effort to launch a clothing line, word of Amazon's latest venture became public via job postings on its website. A series of brand manager positions for Amazon Active Apparel in Seattle have cropped up, Recode reports, looking for applicants who "will collaborate with leadership to build authentic activewear private label brands that have compelling and unique DNA and deliver amazing consumer valued innovation." One listing bills a planning manager gig as an opportunity "to be a part of a newly forming team and business within Amazon." A representative for Amazon declined to comment, citing a matter of company policy.

Of course, activewear isn't a totally new category for the online retailer: It has a page dedicated to athleisure for all lifestyles on its Amazon Fashion homepage right now (just in time for all those new year resolutions), and stocks brands ranging from Alo Yoga to Adidas. Still, it's no surprise Amazon would want to cash in on a continually profitable trend.

While the future of chokers is currently being debated, it's comforting to know it'll still be acceptable to lounge about in leggings all day, every day, in 2017.

15 Photos Of Men Who Enjoy A Fetish You've Never Heard Of

At first glance, female masking may seem like a form of cosplay or crossdressing, since the fetish involves donning latex masks of women's faces and assuming female alter egos. But according to photographer Corinna Kern, who shot a photo series on female maskers last year, it's far more complicated than that.

To start, unlike many people who engage in cosplay or crossdressing, female maskers don't tend to show off their fetish in public, Kern told Refinery29 (though she was lucky enough to find a few who were willing for her project). This niche community exists mostly online, and it's molded by male, transgender, and a few female members who seek a way to explore their gender identity on their own terms.

"For a lot of maskers, their alter egos form a deeper part of themselves or bring to life something that their ‘regular’ self does not hold," Kern explained. "It can be a projection of their desires, or something that they lack but long for, even if they only aspire to live out those sides temporarily."

Masking means slightly different things to each individual masker. For some, it's a fetish; for others, a lifestyle. Some consider it a form of performance art.

For her project, Kern spoke with and photographed German men who were female maskers and came from a vast range of backgrounds — some were in their 20s, some in their 60s, some were single, some were married, and some were even engineers, metal musicians, or mountaineers. According to Kern, the one unifying factor among her subjects was an admiration for and fascination with femininity. As she put it, female masking is "rooted in the idea that every person has both male and female parts in them."

"[Female masking] also gives them an opportunity to counter the roles that are imposed on them by society — for example, not having to be the strong and tough man," she said, adding, "Others desire to be as sexy as a woman and want to experience the recognition and attention a woman receives when wearing a beautiful dress."

Kern reiterated that, although all female maskers engage with female performance, they do so in pursuit of their own feminine ideal. Each masker's alter ego reflects a part of themselves that they keep hidden most of the time, that they may not even reveal to their loved ones. Kern's work takes us behind the masks.

10 Unexpected Spots For A Winter Weekend Getaway

$

Photo: Getty Images.

During the winter months, there’s an assumption that you have to either go skiing or head to a far-flung tropical island. If you don't, it's not really a getaway. But not every vacation this time of year has to be that obvious. There are loads of fabulous destinations that are prime for a weekend jaunt. You just haven't considered them — yet.

Luckily, we have. From glamping in Montana to soaking up the sun (and the cocktails) in San Diego, you can spend the next few months seeking out fun, new experiences. Click ahead to find your perfect, unexpected weekend escape. Bye, bye, winter blues — don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Boston, MA

Sure, it’s cold in Boston in the winter. Like freezing, frigid cold. But the good news is that the New England city is blissfully free of tourists during the icy months, which means you can have free rein of the town. Make sure to stop by Neptune Oyster for some seafood (get the lobster roll) and check out hip Mediterranean small-plates spot Sarma. In the evening, pull up a stool at Drink, a menu-less cocktail bar that is worth waiting in line for. Be sure to follow the Freedom Trail at some point during your visit — even if it means bundling up really well to do so.

Where To Stay: The W Hotel is a chic option in downtown Boston. The hotel, which has newly renovated suites inspired by the city’s history and culture (including Boston rock bands like The Cars and Aerosmith), is the perfect base for sightseeing and exploring the local neighborhoods. There’s also a gym, a spa, and a great lobby restaurant called The Gallery.

Philipsburg , MT

Just because the air is cold doesn’t mean you have to stay indoors. You can enjoy the wilds of America even when the snow threatens to fall. And one of the best places to do that is in Montana, which offers several winter glamping options that will bring you close to nature without having to give up too many amenities. Philipsburg, a 19th-century mining town, is a quaint destination with easy access to the great outdoors. Be sure to grab a brew at the local Philipsburg Brewing Company after you hit the slopes at the Discovery Ski area or try your hand at ice fishing. There’s plenty of ways to explore, whether it’s on snowshoes or in a snowmobile, and you can also shop the various antiques stores around town if you’re cold.

Where To Stay: The Ranch at Rock Creek offers rustic luxury cabins where you can partake in winter glamping. It’s cozy but also close to nature, which will make you feel like you’re braving the elements without actually roughing it. The canvas tents aren’t available during colder months, but you can snuggle up in a blanket in one of The Ranch’s Trapper or Sweet Grass cabins.

San Diego, CA

San Diego has beaches, sure, but you’ll want to head for the Southern California city to experience its burgeoning culture. The food scene (especially the seafood) is top-notch, and you can spend several nights exploring all the cocktail bars. Make a point of visiting Lion’s Share, Polite Provisions, and Noble Experiment, which is an actual speakeasy hidden in the back of a spot called Neighborhood. Explore the Gaslamp District and Little Italy, and hit the Mission Beach boardwalk, where you can enjoy the year-round beautiful weather. Point Loma and Coronado are also great areas with an oceanside feel, and you can snap some photos at the historic Hotel del Coronado, best known for appearing in Some Like It Hot.

Where To Stay: Indulge in a stay at the brand new Pendry Hotel, which has some of the best-decorated rooms ever, plus loads of dining (and drinking) options, a boutique spa, and legitimately incredible showers. It looks like the sort of place where really, really cool adults with good taste stay — and you know that’s the vibe you’re going for.

Photo: Getty Images.

Boulder, CO

Most travelers trek to Colorado in the wintertime to ski at expensive resorts like Vail or Aspen. But there is much to see and do in the state if you’re not a skier. Head to Boulder, a cool town only 30 minutes from the Denver airport, and enjoy the laid-back, healthy vibe of a mountainside locale. Drink some margaritas (limit: three) at the Rio Grande and fill up on sushi at Hapa. You don’t have to stay inside, either: Pack a pair of boots and go on a winter hike, or visit the downtown ice-skating rink and lace up a pair of skates. When you’re ready to warm up, go to the Dushanbe Teahouse, a tearoom gifted to the city by Tajikistan.

Where To Stay: If you want to splurge, book a room at the historic Hotel Boulderado, where a classic, high-end experience awaits. If your budget is tight (or you just want to be more social), Boulder recently became home to a Basecamp Hotel — a quirky, millennial-friendly spot that is in walking distance from the downtown pedestrian mall called Pearl Street. Be sure to check out the “Great Indoors” room for a fun indoor-camping experience.

Negril, Jamaica

To escape the crowds and the cold, try Negril, Jamaica, which is easily accessible from the Southwestern and Eastern part of the U.S. There are endless sandy beaches where you can lie out and forget it's winter elsewhere. Don't miss the Blue Hole Mineral Spring, where you can jump into the spring water through a hole in the rocks or swim in a mineral pool. Grab dinner at the Fireman’s Lobster Pit or Just Natural, both of which embrace local cuisine, and then take a boat to Floyd's Pelican Bar, which is located on a sandbar a mile off the coast. Mostly, you’ll want to turn off your phone, lay down a towel, and doze while listening to the waves.

Where To Stay: Some Negril resorts can be pricey, but there are also deals to be found, especially during the off-season. Check out Catcha Falling Star, a cliffside hotel with boutique cottages and suites. You can cliff-dive (a must while in Negril), and the hotel is blissfully free of children under 15. Try for one of the secluded cottages, which have their own verandas and outdoor showers.

Photo: Getty Images.

San Juan, Puerto Rico

San Juan, Puerto Rico’s capital city, is worth a visit if you want to explore an exotic destination that isn’t too far from home (and, again, escape the cold). The old part of the city features historic Spanish colonial buildings and landmarks dating back to the 16th century, including massive seaside fortress La Fortaleza. The history and architecture are a good place to start; from there, you can explore the beaches, which are dotted with nightclubs, bars, and casinos. If you’re into rum, be sure to book a tour of the Bacardi Rum plant to learn how the spirit is made and enjoy tastings. Grab dinner at Cocina Abierta or Serafina San Juan, then go for a cocktail at La Factoria, which has been twice named one of the World’s 50 Best Bars.

Where To Stay: O:live Boutique Hotel is a more intimate choice when staying in San Juan. It’s relaxed, charming, and filled with luxury elements like plush robes and classy verandas. You can dine at the Sage Steak Loft, a high-end eatery, and imbibe on the rooftop bar during sunset. There's also a small rooftop pool where you can hang out when you’re not by the ocean.

Photo: Getty Images.

Oklahoma City, OK

Oklahoma City may seem random, but the city is rapidly gaining in coolness (and has a temperate climate, which you’ll appreciate come January). There’s a lot to experience, including the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum, which pays tribute to those who passed away in the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995, and the Oklahoma City Museum of Art. When you’re ready for a drink, head to Pump Bar, a converted gas station that now serves up cocktails and bar bites. Bricktown has an endless number of dining options, but if you want to veer off the beaten path, grab a table at Tamashii Ramen House. For a caffeine fix, try Elemental Coffee, which bests even the hippest coffee spots in Brooklyn.

Where To Stay: When in Oklahoma City, bunk at the 21C Museum Hotel, which was recently built in an old Ford factory. The hotel has its own contemporary-art collection, a super-cool bar, and giant plastic penguins you can take with you to your room (for Instagram, obviously). The rooms are so large and well-appointed, you may never want to leave.

Photo: Getty Images.

Portland, OR

Portland has more to offer than just what you’ve seen on Portlandia (although it is actually that hip). There are tons of great restaurants, including Afuri, which is traditional ramen imported from Japan, and Farm Spirit, which embraces local Northwestern ingredients. You can rent a bike and explore the city and browse the Portland Art Museum. There is a growing craft-brewery scene around Portland, and you should plan to check out as many as you can, especially Deschutes Brewery Portland Public House. There are also so, so many amazing bars (we swear we’re not telling you to drink your way through Portland). Grab a stool at the speakeasy-style Pépe le Moko or at Rum Club. If you’re into shopping, Portland has a great selection of boutique and vintage shops, from Frances May to Yo Vintage!.

Where To Stay: The Ace Hotel is a super popular spot to stay in Portland, but you could also consider Hotel deLuxe, which is eclectic and chic all at once. Designed in the style of Hollywood’s Golden Age, the hotel has a pop-up cinema that screens classic films, afternoon tea, and a 1950s cocktail bar called Driftwood Room. The location will put you smack dab in the middle of town, just a few blocks from the famous Powell’s City of Books.

Photo: Getty Images.

Galveston, TX

Instead of Austin, give Galveston a shot. The island city is located on the Gulf Coast, and you can visit the seriously bizarre and iconic Moody Gardens, a theme park that features free-roaming monkeys, sharks, and a golf course. Hit up Island Famous, a nightlife spot with five different themed bars on site. Whether you’re in the mood for a Caribbean-inspired rum drink or a Tiki cocktail, you'll find it here. When you get hungry, try the highly popular restaurant Rudy & Paco or the small eatery Mosquito Café. The town is wholly unique, and there’s a lot to explore to get the relaxed, casual, local vibe — just what you’re looking for in a weekend getaway.

Where To Stay: Galveston is not the type of city that’s filled with luxe hotels, but you’ll like The Tremont House, which is part of the Wyndham Hotel group. The rooms are relatively elegant, with Southern flair, and the hotel itself is situated right in the center of town, within walking distance of everything.

Photo: Getty Images.

Québec City, Québec

Europe is a long (and expensive) flight for a weekend, but Quebec City, located along the Saint Lawrence River, offers a European vibe right here in North America. Explore the narrow stone streets of Vieux-Québec and the Musée National des Beaux-Arts du Québec. You can join a walking tour or just wander the city on your own, taking in the historic sites and culture. Indulge at iX Pour Bistro, a small, innovative restaurant, and be sure to grab a traditional Québec bagel at Bugel Fabrique de Bagels (order the sesame). In the evening, book a pub crawl, which will take you to a variety of local bars and pubs. No, it’s not Paris, but it can be just as exciting if you come in with an open mind.

Where To Stay: Québec City offers some very affordable accommodations, especially during the winter months. Check out Hôtel du Vieux-Québec, which is simple but classy, and perfectly located in the center of the old town. The contemporary rooms offset the surrounding 18th-century rampart walls, which you can see just outside the hotel. Bonus: If you book directly, breakfast is free.

Here's How To Get Free Weed On Inauguration Day

$
0
0

Donald Trump's swearing in as the 45th president of the U.S. is already expected to be met with a series of protests across Washington, D.C. But the organizers of one protest in particular are using marijuana as a form of civil disobedience — by handing out free weed on Inauguration Day.

USA Today reports that come January 20, the D.C. Cannabis Coalition is giving out 4,500 free joints in the nation's Capitol to call for federal legalization of marijuana.

"The main message is it’s time to legalize cannabis at the federal level," Adam Eidinger, founder of the Cannabis Coalition, told USA Today. The D.C. Cannabis Coalition, also known as the DCMJ, is made of a group of D.C. residents who helped to get Initiative 71 passed, which made it legal to grow marijuana and possess 2 ounces or less of it. While weed is legal in several states, it has yet to be legalized across the nation.

However, Eidinger is worried that this progress will be halted with the incoming administration — particularly with the president-elect's pick for attorney general, Jeff Sessions, who has a history of being opposed to legalizing marijuana.

"We are looking at a guy who as recently as April said that they are going to enforce federal law on marijuana all over the country," Eidinger explained to USA Today. "He said marijuana is dangerous."

The group plans to start giving out joints at 8 a.m. on the west side of Dupont Circle, and then have marchers walk to the National Mall for the main protest. At four minutes and 20 seconds into the inauguration speech (when else?), protestors will be encouraged to light up — which is illegal, even if the big joint giveaway isn't.

"We are going to tell them that if they smoke on federal property, they are risking arrest," Eidinger told USA Today. "But, that's a form of civil disobedience. I think it's a good protest. If someone wants to do it, they are risking arrest, but it's a protest and you know what, the National Mall is a place for protest."

So, if you're planning to be around the White House on Inauguration Day, be aware — it'll probably smell like weed.

This month we’re celebrating High January by leaving our stoner stereotypes behind. Instead, we’ll take long-time smokers and total newbies through all the various complexities of the current cannabis world. It’s 2017 and we’re ready to blaze a new trail.

(Refinery29 in no way encourages illegal activity and would like to remind its readers that marijuana usage continues to be an offense under Federal Law, regardless of state marijuana laws. To learn more, click here.)

Dear iOS, Thank You For These Hilariously Misconstrued Voicemails

A friend perfectly summed up the current state of leaving voicemails when she began a recent message as follows:

"Hi, it's me, I mean it's Sarah. I can't remember the last time I left a voicemail, but well, here goes."

Voicemails aren't extinct, but they sometimes feel like they are. At this point I really only leave a message when I call my parents. And the only voicemails I get are from them, too — or Duane Reade telling me that a prescription refill is ready. Yes, there's the very occasional message from a friend like Sarah. But mostly, it's just Mom, Dad, and Duane Reade.

Even with relatively few voicemails taking up space on my phone, listening to them always seems like such a chore. That's why I was thrilled when Apple announced this past spring that iOS 10 would include voicemail transcription. At last, a way to read messages without having to play the recording. There's just one problem: automated digital voice transcriptions are usually riddled with errors — and iOS is no exception. Click through for nine of the most hilariously inaccurate voicemail transcripts we've seen (and heard about).

I'd be willing to forgive the name mistake (Maddy can, after all, sound like Robbie), but the rest of this transcription is just a tad bit tricky to decipher.

Photo: Madeline Buxton.

If there really is a media gaming healthcare alliance out there, I want to know about it. But that's not really what my dad was talking about in this case. Nor was there any talk of gas from the so-called entrepreneurs. (At least, none to my knowledge.)

Hey Siri, am I Siri? Answer: No.

Photo: Madeline Buxton.

Dear school systems around the country, we really hope you don't actually have "no-brainer" superintendents in charge. Fortunately, this was just a transcription error.

Photo: via @CLTruelsen.

Do tell, iOS, what is a "baby door?" And why does it need to know about a test of an emergency system?

Photo: via @cami_galeano13.

This transcription, left on one Redditor's voicemail, is basically like a host on Westworld who has gone totally rogue.

Photo: via @dolphinsaregreat.

...Unless this Redditor's Grandma actually is a Westworld host, chances are slim that a service technician would be repairing her.

Photo: via @Ross2552.

Between the "good ass," "baby stuff," and "yummy roast," things got a little crazy — and unintelligible — here.

Photo: via @Jacob_Brogan.

One can only dream of someday being called Edwin the bird.

Photo: via @wilw.

And then, sometimes you think that iOS has messed up a transcription. But really, it's absolutely right and well, that's just your dad being your dad.

There really is nothing wrong with a frying pan.

This Wave Technique Might Be The Craziest Yet

Just because a beauty trend stops being trendy doesn’t necessarily mean it’s done, over, gone for good. Take, for example, matte brown lipstick: The ‘90s mainstay once seemed like little more than a relic of the grunge era, but over the past few years it's returned with a vengeance — and now we can’t imagine our lip color rotation without it. (Hi, Urban Decay Vice Lipstick in 1993.)

That said, not every craze needs a second wind. No matter how committed you once were to your crimping iron, we’re not entirely sure it will make a mass comeback. But, if you’re still on a mission to bring a similar wavy texture back to life, this zig-zag curling iron might not be a bad place to start. Think of it as a crimper made modern.

The hair tool brand, Glampalm, describes its ZigZag Styling Iron as “a departure from everything you know about heat-styling,” which seems like a fair statement, promising “uniform, texturized waves” for an “avant-garde” look. The results look a bit like a more severe version of our favorite '80s trend — where crimping is a gentle, rolling tide crashing on the shore, the zig-zag is a tidal wave.

The only bad news? This crimper-on-crack will set you back a cool $220. If this were 1989, that’d be about $115.

The Golden Globes are notorious for being strange, inscrutable, and a blast to watch. Who is actually a member of the Hollywood Foreign Press? Why do these awards get their own show? Did Burlesque really get a nomination in exchange for paid trips to Las Vegas?

If you've been paying attention, however, you'll notice there's real value in this renegade awards night. Yeah, yeah, we love watching the stars get drunk, too. But that's not what we're talking about. It's the fact that they often offer a refreshing take on who really deserves to bask in the spotlight each year.

There was a time when it was assumed that the Globes made their decisions based on which stars they wanted at their party (like the VMAs and Teen Choice Awards still do). Maybe that's a factor in the somewhat less-conventional choices they've made. More important is the fact that they divide movies into Drama and Musical/Comedy, allowing for recognition of movies that aren't about war and death (ahem, Oscars). They also just don't seem to get caught in ruts the way the Emmys do, and instead have recognized teen dramas, streaming platforms, and supernatural-themed shows over stodgy old favorites.

Could we see awards given to the likes of Deadpool, Stranger Things, and Issa Rae this year? Judging this track record of surprising, but smart, choices, we just might.

Happy Songs That Will Instantly Put You In A Good Mood

Marilyn Monroe, Some Like It Hot (1960)

By now, we all recognize that a woman can be both a sex symbol and a talented actress, but that certainly wasn't the case during Monroe's heyday. She finally received awards-show acclaim for 1956's Bus Stop, for which she got BAFTA and Globe nods. In 1960, she won the Best Actress in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy for her role as unlucky-in-love ukulele player Sugar Kowalczyk in Some Like It Hot. She never received an Oscar in her lifetime.

Ghostbusters (1985)

Not many movies, past or present, have managed to balance big-budget special effects and action with brilliant comedy. It's the performances of Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Rick Moranis, Sigourney Weaver, and Ernie Hudson that have kept it at the top of all-time comedy lists for decades.

While it was nominated for Visual Effects and Original Song Oscars, it was the Globes who had the wisdom to nominate it for Best Motion Picture Musical or Comedy and Murray for Best Actor Musical or Comedy.

Back to the Future (1986)

A clever sci-fi concept, a teen heartthrob star, all the 1950s nostalgia boomers love, laughs, and action — no one questioned this movie's quality in 1985, and that opinion remains to this day. Amazingly, even the Academy managed to nominate Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale for their original screenplay (and the movie won for sound effects).

Only the Globes were smart enough to nominate it for Best Motion Picture Musical or Comedy and Michael J. Fox for Best Actor Musical or Comedy, in addition to Best Screenplay and Best Original Song ("The Power of Love").

Roseanne(1989)

The HFP nominated the working-class sitcom for Best Comedy Series, Best Actress (Roseanne Barr), and Best Actor (John Goodman) in its first season. The Emmys gave a nod to Goodman later that year, but didn't nominate Barr until 1992, and never nominated the series for Best Comedy.

Home Alone (1991)

Despite its place in our hearts, the John Hughes movie received mixed reviews when it came out, so we understand why it didn't get much Oscar love overall. But Macaulay Culkin gave one of the best performances of that year, and he absolutely deserved to be listed among his much older peers in the Globes category of Best Actor Musical or Comedy. One could even argue that he was more nuanced than winner Gerard Depardieu was in Green Card.

Pretty Woman (1991)

Stuffier awards shows like to ignore the value of a frothy, visually pleasing, heartwarming fairytale like this. "Big mistake." Thank goodness the Hollywood Foreign Press know a good fashion montage starring a prostitute when they see one. It was nominated for Best Motion Picture Musical or Comedy, Best Actor Musical or Comedy (Richard Gere), and Best Supporting Actor (Hector Elizondo), and Julia Roberts won Best Actress Musical or Comedy.

Photo: Touchstone Pictures/REX/Shutterstock.

Ghost (1991)

This was a good year for movies with a lasting impact. Though we now look back on Ghost as a bit cheesy, it can still make us cry buckets. The movie racked up nominations from both the Academy and the HFP. Whoopi Goldberg won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar and Globe, and the film won a Best Original Screenplay Oscar. What the Globes were able to do that the Oscars couldn't was give nods to Ghost 's stars: Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore. (We'll have to check if the Academy of Erotic Pottery Makers ever gave them an award, too.)

Photo: Paramount/REX/Shutterstock.

Twin Peaks (1991)

Before the era of dark-and-twisty cable dramas, David Lynch brought Twin Peaks to ABC. The weird, wild mystery of who killed Laura Palmer earned 14 Emmy nominations, but only one win for costume design and editing. The HFP, on the other hand, wisely handed it Globes for Best Drama Series, Best Actor in a TV Drama (Kyle MacLachlin), and Best Supporting Actress (Piper Laurie, with Sherlyn Fenn also nominated).

Photo: SNAP/REX/Shutterstock.

Beauty and the Beast (1992)

After the Little Mermaid paved the way for a new generation of Disney films to be admired by adults as much as children, this one swept up an impressive number of accolades. Though it had six Oscar nominations, it won only Best Original Song ("Beauty and the Beast," with "Be Our Guest" and "Belle" also nominated) and Original Score.

In addition to taking home song and score Globes, Beauty and the Beast also became the first animated movie to win Best Motion Picture Musical or Comedy. Crossing fingers this year's live adaptation can do the same.

Photo: Moviestore Collection/REX/Shutterstock.

Mrs. Doubtfire (1994)

In the year of Schindler's List, there wasn't much room for this silly, heartwarming comedy at the Oscars. Thank goodness the Globes were there to award it Best Motion Picture Musical or Comedy and Best Actor to Robin Williams.

Photo: SNAP/REX/Shutterstock.

The X-Files (1994)

For its very first, groundbreaking season, the Fox series took home the Globe for Best Drama series. It got an Emmy that year too — for graphic design. The TV Academy woke up the next year and began to nominate it for bigger things.

Photo: Snap Stills/REX/Shutterstock.

Claire Danes, My So-Called Life (1995)

Before it was the poster child of gone-too-soon cult favorites, there was one group of viewers who loved this ABC teen drama while it was on the air, and they gave Claire Danes the Best Actress in a Drama Globe. She earned an Emmy nod later that year, after the show had already been canceled.

Photo: Moviestore Collection/REX/Shutterstock.

Sense and Sensibility (1996)

Should a movie based on a Jane Austen novel, adapted by another woman (Emma Thompson), and about women figuring out the best way to live in a world structured to make them dependent on men beat out such macho competitors as Braveheart and Apollo 13?

Hell, yes. Sense and Sensibility took home two Globes, for Best Drama and Adapted Screenplay (with actress, director, and score nods). Thompson went on to win the Oscar for her screenplay, too.

Photo: Columbia/REX/Shutterstock.

Keri Russell, Felicity (1999)

Before it was cool for grownups to like teen shows, the Golden Globes did. This WB series was nominated for Best Drama Series, and Russell won for Best Actress in a TV Drama Series, beating the likes of Gillian Anderson and Julianna Margulies. The Emmys never met a WB or CW show it couldn't ignore.

Photo: MARK J. TERRILL/AP/REX/Shutterstock.

Jim Carrey, The Truman Show (1999)

Carrey put aside his broad comedic chops to play this early, extreme version of a reality-TV star, and was widely met with critical acclaim. He won the Globe for Best Actor in a Drama, while the Academy skipped right over him without so much as a nomination. Sure, it was a crowded field that year. But, c'mon, The Truman Show was pure gold.

Photo: Melinda Sue Gordon/Paramount/REX/Shutterstock.

Sarah Michelle Gellar, Buffy the Vampire Slayer (2001)

A show about teens and vampires airing on the WB and UPN was never going to get a serious look from those haughty Academy members. But this one time, in the middle of the series' run, Gellar had a shot at Best Actress in a Drama Series.

Photo: 20th Century Fox Television/REX/Shutterstock.

Jennifer Garner, Alias(2002)

Maybe you remember the wigs, cat suits and Krav Maga. But Garner also had her share of heavy, dramatic scenes on the drama. The HFP recognized this from day one, awarding her with Best Actress in a TV Drama Series (she beat the likes of Edie Falco and Lauren Graham). The series went on to get plenty of Emmy nominations throughout its run, but never a major win.

Photo: Snap Stills/REX/Shutterstock.

Brokeback Mountain (2006)

Awards shows do love a good western — and Ang Lee's gay cowboy movie didn't just check off a number of boxes for voters and critics, it was well deserving of the praise.

Among its seven Globe nominations, the movie took home Best Picture Drama, Best Director, Best Screenplay, and Best Original Song. Somehow, at the Oscars — though Brokeback had all the major nods, and wins for director, score, and song — Crash(ugh) went home with Best Picture.

The Office (U.K. version) (2004)

Ricky Gervais' series had come and gone in the U.K., most of the U.S. had never heard of him or his show. Yet he managed to win Best TV Comedy and Best Actor in a TV Comedy Series in 2003. You have this win to thank for the existence of the U.S. version, and for Gervais' gigs as host of the show.

Photo: J. Vespa/Getty Images.

Grey's Anatomy (2006)

While the series eventually became an Emmy favorite in the acting categories, the Globes were the first to give it hardware. Sandra Oh won Best Supporting Actress in 2006, and the show took home Best TV Drama in 2007.

Photo: Scott Garfield/ABC-TV/REX/Shutterstock.

Emily Blunt, The Devil Wears Prada (2007)

Of course, Meryl Streep won the Globe for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy and was nominated for an Oscar (even though Anne Hathaway was the real lead): She's Meryl Freaking Streep.

But it was a delightful surprise to see then-little-known Emily Blunt get a Best Supporting Actress nomination, making everyone take a second look at just how good she was in her part.

Photo: Barry Wetcher/20th Century Fox/REX/Shutterstock.

Jon Hamm, Mad Men (2008)

For almost the entirety of Mad Men 's run, Hamm was called the "Susan Lucci" of the Primetime Emmys, nominated year after year without a win until 2015. Never forget, though, that the Golden Globes gave Don Draper his due just after the first season. The series won Best Drama that year, too.

Photo: Kevin Winter/Getty Images.

Anna Paquin, True Blood (2009)

You can rank mind-reading waitresses who date vampires just behind vampire-slaying cheerleaders in the list of characters we don't normally expect to rack up statuettes.

Maybe Paquin's Oscar pedigree, or the show's home on HBO, helped the HFP to notice her excellent performance amid the show's supernatural nuttiness and give her the Best Actress in a TV Drama Award.

Photo: Hbo/REX/Shutterstock.

Amy Poehler, Parks & Recreation (2014)

Poehler seemed happy enough to see her friends beat her for the Best Actress in a TV Comedy award six out of six times she was nominated. The fact that she beat them for the Golden Globe one of those years must help alleviate the sting a little.

Photo: Paul Drinkwater/NBC-TV/REX/Shutterstock.

Gina Rodriguez, Jane the Virgin(2015)

While her telenovela-inspired CW show continues to fly under Emmys' radar, Rodriguez proved herself a worthy star with her beautiful speech after her surprise win for Best Actress in a TV Comedy. "This award is so much more than myself. It represents a culture that wants to see themselves as heroes." Sniff.

Transparent (2015)

Who was expecting an Amazon series to win awards back in 2015? Wins for the series and for Jeffrey Tambor that year felt like part of the zeitgeist — for streaming shows, and for trans acceptance. These Globes paved the way for Emmy wins later on.

Photo: George Pimentel/Getty Images.

Gael Garcia Bernal, Mozart in the Jungle (2016)

This little Amazon show about classical musicians went largely unnoticed for over a year until the HFP shocked everyone and handed over Globes for Best TV Comedy and Best Actor in a TV Comedy. Many of us took to binging this one right after its win and were thankful for the heads up.

Photo: Amazon Studios/American Zoetrope/REX/Shutterstock.

Outlander (2016)

If this historical epic aired on HBO, you just know it would be an Emmy favorite. At least the Golden Globes have had the sense to tune in. The series, Caitriona Balfe, and Tobias Menzies all got nods last year. Sadly, only Balfe is nominated in 2017.

Photo: Courtesy of Starz.

Rachel Bloom, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (2016)

TV critics and fans weren't surprised by Bloom's win for Best Actress in a TV Comedy last year. But given its low ratings, it was clear that others were completely unaware of her charm until she took the stage. This win was possibly what gave the CW the confidence to grant the series a second season.

Photo: Jim Smeal/REX/Shutterstock.

Idris Elba, Beasts of No Nation, & Will Smith, Concussion (2016)

In the year of #OscarsSoWhite, at least the HFP recognized the stunning performances of these two Black actors. They rendered null any argument by the Academy that there just weren't performances out there worthy of their nods.

When did you last try a new sex position? Whether or not you're in a relationship, it's all too easy to fall back on a handful of tried-and-tested moves and forget the delicious variety available to you and your partner.

That's where Clare Cavanah and Rachel Venning come in. They're not only the founders of sex toy boutique and educational hub Babeland, they're the authors of Moregasm: Babeland's Guide to Mind-Blowing Sex. With insight into everything from BDSM to birth control, Moregasm is an expert (yet relatable) roadmap to your best-ever sex life.

The book's inclusive, deftly illustrated guides to manual, oral, vaginal, and anal sex positions are our favorite part. We're thrilled to share them with you here, beginning with Cavanah and Venning's step-by-step suggestions for vaginal sex and then adding ideas for other forms of play each month. (And if you just can't wait, you can purchase the book, here). Some positions may be old favorites, others variations on classics, and still others completely new to you. Combined, they might just make for your best sex yet. Click through for the good stuff.

The Bend-Over

"She’s on her hands and knees while you reach through from behind. A perfect opportunity for tickling her ass to boot."

Image: Courtesy of illustrator Anders Wenngren, from the book Moregasm, produced by Melcher Media, Inc.

Leg Reversal

"Hold your legs straight and together while the penetrative partner opens up their legs around yours. It takes a little more work to get the penis or dildo into the V, but then it’s a nice tight feeling."

Image: Courtesy of illustrator Anders Wenngren, from the book Moregasm, produced by Melcher Media, Inc.

Anal Reverse Cowgirl/Cowboy

"Facing away might be a better angle for penetration. (Not as good for eye contact, obviously.)"

Image: Courtesy of illustrator Anders Wenngren, from the book Moregasm, produced by Melcher Media, Inc.

The Octopus

"Hands and legs are wrapping around her while you polish her pearl. Feels like a nice big bear hug combined with an equally lovely hand job."

Image: Courtesy of illustrator Anders Wenngren, from the book Moregasm, produced by Melcher Media, Inc.

Anal Missionary

"The bottom person's legs are in the air, presenting the butt to the sky (and partner). The top person controls the movement and penetration, but the bottom person has decent control over the angle."

Image: Courtesy of illustrator Anders Wenngren, from the book Moregasm, produced by Melcher Media, Inc.

Anal Doggy Style

"The penetrate-ee (bottom) can have their torso upright (like kneeling in prayer) or across (on all fours) or down (chest on bed). The bottom has some control over depth and angle of penetration. The top has a great view and a lot of control."

Image: Courtesy of illustrator Anders Wenngren, from the book Moregasm, produced by Melcher Media, Inc.

Anal Cowgirl/Cowboy

"In this anal sex position, one person straddles the penetrator and inserts the penis or dildo as if they were sitting on a fencepost. While the cowpoke is getting poked, they can control the angle and the movement. Good for eye contact."

Image: Courtesy of illustrator Anders Wenngren, from the book Moregasm, produced by Melcher Media, Inc.

Assisted Missionary

"Put a pillow or two under your butt or under your lower back. This will tilt your pelvis up to better match the natural angle of the penis or dildo. This is also nice if you suffer from back pain."

Image: Courtesy of illustrator Anders Wenngren, from the book Moregasm, produced by Melcher Media, Inc.

Power Up

"Add hands-free vibration to the fun. The wearable We-Vibe (which stimulates the clit and the G-spot and is made to be worn during intercourse) or a vibrating penis ring can provide the clit stimulation that the missionary position sometimes denies."

Image: Courtesy of illustrator Anders Wenngren, from the book Moregasm, produced by Melcher Media, Inc.

Life On The Edge

"Lie down on your back at the edge of the bed, with your thighs and legs dangling off. Bend your knees and put your feet on the ground. Your partner stands or kneels between your legs and enters you. Your partner gets a great view and control of a deep thrust. You get to kick back and enjoy."

Image: Courtesy of illustrator Anders Wenngren, from the book Moregasm, produced by Melcher Media, Inc.

Butt Lift

"Put your ankles on your partner's shoulders. This will lift your butt in the air. Your partner can hold your butt or your legs, and can kiss and massage your feet. Your partner has total control over the thrusting. Not great for stimulating the clit."

Image: Courtesy of illustrator Anders Wenngren, from the book Moregasm, produced by Melcher Media, Inc.

The Scissors

"You and your partner are making a scissor shape, with your partner's leg between one of yours and the other outside it. Lots of pressure on your mons makes this position a cut above."

Image: Courtesy of illustrator Anders Wenngren, from the book Moregasm, produced by Melcher Media, Inc.

Reverse Cowgirl

"Kneel and straddle your partner, facing the other direction. You can put your arms in front of you and lean on your partner's knees, or you can arch and lean back on your arms behind you. This does not allow easy eye contact, but you get a lot of control."

Image: Courtesy of illustrator Anders Wenngren, from the book Moregasm, produced by Melcher Media, Inc.

The Flying Buttress

"This is for show-offs. Your partner is on top but facing away from you, head at your feet. Entry can be difficult from this angle. You can tilt your pelvis up to help the cause. For some, this is enjoyable. For others, it requires too much flexibility."

Image: Courtesy of illustrator Anders Wenngren, from the book Moregasm, produced by Melcher Media, Inc.

Limbo Like Me

"If you are flexible enough, lean back so your head is between your partner's ankles. Then, your partner holds your hips to control the thrusting. This helps the penis hit the G-spot. Anybody's free hand (or vibe!) can rub the clit."

Image: Courtesy of illustrator Anders Wenngren, from the book Moregasm, produced by Melcher Media, Inc.

Raised Doggy

"Your partner kneels or stands behind you and enters you. Your thighs can be apart with your partner's thighs inside yours. If your partner's strong, they can (after penetration) lift and hold one or both of your legs — like a sexy wheelbarrow."

Image: Courtesy of illustrator Anders Wenngren, from the book Moregasm, produced by Melcher Media, Inc.

Supported Doggy

"You kneel by the side of the bed, facing it and bracing your arms against the mattress. Your partner kneels behind you. All the fun of regular doggy, but with solid support."

Image: Courtesy of illustrator Anders Wenngren, from the book Moregasm, produced by Melcher Media, Inc.

Tired Doggy

"You lie face down with one or two pillows under your pelvis, so your butt tilts up. Your partner lies on top of you and enters you from behind with legs either between or outside of yours. You have little control, but it sure is restful!"

Image: Courtesy of illustrator Anders Wenngren, from the book Moregasm, produced by Melcher Media, Inc.

The Side Roll

"Your partner lies on their side, leaning back a little, legs apart. You lie in front, backing onto the penis or dildo. Your thighs are together and resting between your partner's thighs. You can also get here by starting in Reverse Cowgirl, unbending your knees, and sending your legs out straight in front of you. And everyone tilts to the side."

Image: Courtesy of illustrator Anders Wenngren, from the book Moregasm, produced by Melcher Media, Inc.

Taking The L Train

"Your partner lies on their side. You lie on your side at a 90-degree angle, forming an L with your partner's body. Your chest faces the headboard. You bend your legs and put your knees over your partner's shoulders, your butt against the penis or dildo. Your partner enters you from there. Or, try the variation pictured, where you're on your back."

Image: Courtesy of illustrator Anders Wenngren, from the book Moregasm, produced by Melcher Media, Inc.

The Liftoff

"Your partner is standing and holds you by the butt as you straddle them. It takes a lot of strength. For greater ease and fun, your partner can hoist your butt on the kitchen counter (or washing machine or desk)."

Image: Courtesy of illustrator Anders Wenngren, from the book Moregasm, produced by Melcher Media, Inc.

Standing Doggy

"You stand and face away. Your partner enters you from behind. This position is tough if you are of different heights. A possible solution? Sexy high heels on the shorter partner. Or, you can get on all fours at the edge of the bed. Your partner stands and enters you from behind."

Image: Courtesy of illustrator Anders Wenngren, from the book Moregasm, produced by Melcher Media, Inc.

The Yogi

"Your partner sits up in bed (legs our or cross-legged) and, facing them, you sit on their lap, legs astride or around them. You can also transition to this from Cowgirl if your partner sits up and you straighten your legs. Great for closeness and kissing, since your chests come together in a hug. Arms are free. It takes some torso strength to stay upright."

Image: Courtesy of illustrator Anders Wenngren, from the book Moregasm, produced by Melcher Media, Inc.

Sidesaddle

"This works well on an armchair. You sit on your partner's lap, but ride sidesaddle instead of astride. You move yourself up and down with your arms or your legs, if they reach the floor."

Image: Courtesy of illustrator Anders Wenngren, from the book Moregasm, produced by Melcher Media, Inc.

The Recliner

"Man lies down on his back. Giver lies between his legs. Good for visuals and eye contact. Can be rough on the neck."

Image: Courtesy of illustrator Anders Wenngren, from the book Moregasm, produced by Melcher Media, Inc.

The Confessional

"Man sits on chair, couch, or edge of bed. Giver kneels between his legs. Good for giver’s neck."

Image: Courtesy of illustrator Anders Wenngren, from the book Moregasm, produced by Melcher Media, Inc.

The Elevator

"He stands, giver kneels. (Think Glenn Close and Michael Douglas elevator scene — pre-bunny — in Fatal Attraction.) Feels very subservient, which can be positive or negative, depending on how you feel."

Image: Courtesy of illustrator Anders Wenngren, from the book Moregasm, produced by Melcher Media, Inc.

The Face-Sitter

"Giver lies on back. The man straddles giver’s face and puts his penis in his or her mouth. This provides the blower very little control, but it’s also less work. Do this with someone you trust."

Image: Courtesy of illustrator Anders Wenngren, from the book Moregasm, produced by Melcher Media, Inc.

The “Howdy!”

"Man lies on his back. The giver straddles him upside-down, with giver’s feet by the man’s head. Man gets up-close view of the ass — he can finger the asshole and tender parts or return the favor with some 69."

Image: Courtesy of illustrator Anders Wenngren, from the book Moregasm, produced by Melcher Media, Inc.

The Recliner For Her

"The classic cunnilingus pose is when she reclines and you lie on your stomach with your head between her open legs. It creates nice visuals for her and makes for easy eye contact. The only downside is that your neck doesn’t like it after a while."

Image: Courtesy of illustrator Anders Wenngren, from the book Moregasm, produced by Melcher Media, Inc.

The Little Prayer

"You’re kneeling at the edge of the bed while she sits or lies back, facing you with legs open."

Image: Courtesy of illustrator Anders Wenngren, from the book Moregasm, produced by Melcher Media, Inc.

The S-Curve

"She lies on her right side, halfway curled up. You lie on your left side facing her, farther down, with your head to her muff. The two of you form a big S from above. Great for the neck, bad for eye contact."

Image: Courtesy of illustrator Anders Wenngren, from the book Moregasm, produced by Melcher Media, Inc.

The Face-Sitter For Her

"The lick-ee straddles the face of the licker, giving the lick-ee lots of fun control and good visuals. Make sure the person on the bottom can breathe! It can be hard so come while holding yourself up — try placing your hands on the wall at the edge or top of the bed."

Image: Courtesy of illustrator Anders Wenngren, from the book Moregasm, produced by Melcher Media, Inc.

The Light Switch

"Use your first two fingers or just your middle finger to lightly slide up and down her vag like you are flipping a light switch. Start by going up and down the labia and just inside the vaginal opening. You can try it lightly on her clit too."

Image: Courtesy of illustrator Anders Wenngren, from the book Moregasm, produced by Melcher Media, Inc.

Palm Sunday

"This is good if she loves to masturbate with indirect external pressure (a.k.a. humping things). Place your whole palm over her mons and massage in small, steady circles. Make sure there is contact and pressure just above the clit."

Image: Courtesy of illustrator Anders Wenngren, from the book Moregasm, produced by Melcher Media, Inc.

All Thumbs

"Cradle the penis with both hands, so your thumbs meet over the frenulum (that is, where the head meets the shaft on the underside). Give a gentle massage to the frenulum with both of your thumbs."

There are plenty of reasons to join a beauty membership club. For starters, the rewards are second to none. (At CVS, you can score free cash just for making a purchase; Ulta's points system knocks off a few bucks after you reach a certain number.) And, as of today, there's another brand that's offering exclusive deals to loyal customers: Kat Von D Beauty. And its monthly Everlasting Flash Program comes with one really cool perk.

On the first Wednesday of every month for the entire year, you'll be able to shop never-before-seen liquid lipstick shades before they launch, starting at 12 pm EST — for a full 48 hours before anyone else. "I make a point to share the news of upcoming launches as soon as I can on social media, so it was a natural next step to actually make these sneak peeks shoppable," Von D said in a press release.

To kick off the launch, the brand is offering one brand-new, nude lipstick color from its spring collection called Sanctuary, shown here, for $20. But you'll want to act fast — the preview expires after 48 hours, and if you miss out, you won't be able to officially snag the product until February. Then make sure you sign up here for the newsletter to stay in the loop on future deals. And since the club is completely free to join, you can rest assured knowing your money will only go where your mouth is.

We love us some coziness this time of year. It's all about hot chocolate, hot toddies, and hot showers. But one thing that's decidedly not hot right now is our feet. When we lie down to sleep, it's the extremities that always get cold first — and how annoying is that?

That's why the Sleep Number mattress kind of sounds like a godsend right now. As Cosmo U.K. reports, the high-tech invention, which goes on sale later this year, warms your feet while you fall asleep. Aside from the built-in heater, its "responsive air technology" also learns your sleep patterns and reacts to fit your body better while you sleep. It also gently nudges you (or your partner) when you start snoring, which is pretty darn polite if you ask us.

Check out the video below for more details, and get ready for the coziest night's sleep ever.

17 Steamy Sex Hacks For People In Long-Distance Relationships

$

Anyone on that long-distance relationship grind deserves a standing ovation. Not only are you committing to putting in that extra effort every day, you’re also steeling yourself for months or even years without IRL sex. Of course, sex is not required for a strong and healthy relationship, but if you’re going from 100 to zero in the bedroom department, you’re bound to feel its absence. Luckily, now more than ever, couples can live far away from each other and still have a fulfilling sex life — it just involves getting creative, thinking outside of the box, and, most importantly, utilizing the magic of the internet.

While there are still a few offline ways to spice things up (we’ll get to those in a moment), the easiest long-distance sex hacks are just a matter of staying plugged in. If you’re a tech addict, a toy-user, a writer, a gamer, or more, you can make things just as sexy as they’d be were your partner by your side — if not more so.

So, if you’re currently in a monogamous LDR or about to embark on one, you can relax. You’re not about to enter some torturous dry spell. In fact, even if you share a bed with your partner every night, these ideas might make you consider a solo vacation just to give them a go. They’re that good.

Make a replica of your genitals.

There’s no other way to put this: You can literally clone your partner’s genitals. Or give them a replica of your own! Create a penis or vagina mold using an easy-to-use at-home kit, some even coming with a vibrating unit as an added bonus. Tuck this in your partner’s suitcase as a parting gift, or request one when you’re craving something familiar.

Use a remote-controlled vibrator.

There’s a remote-controlled vibrator for all your long-distance needs. If your partner has a penis, this remote-controlled masturbation sleeve, called the Max, lets you work your magic from far away. There are also some remote-controlled vibes for people with vaginas (the Nora or the Lush) and those who enjoy anal stimulation(the Hush). Heterosexual couples or couples who usually participate in penis-and-vagina sex can even sync up their toys so they interact with each other.

Download the right apps.

Long-distance relationships? As always, there’s an app for that. In fact, there are several, but when it comes to sex, Kik, Whatsapp, and Snapchat are great tools for keeping your sexts separate and (relatively) secure. If you’re not ready to jump right into explicit sexual messaging, use HouseTab to buy each other a drink first.

Give each other sex tasks.

While masturbation is a go-to solution when you’re feeling lonely, there’s no reason you should be the only one involved. Giving each other sex tasks (like masturbating at specific times or using a new toy) means you’re always there in spirit, and it adds a little thrill to the day when you know your partner is miles away thinking about you.

Give your all to sexting.

From bed, from the bus, even from work, sexting is the most accessible and discreet way of keeping things hot with your partner. Whether you’re committing to full-on back-and-forths or just a few saucy messages throughout the day, sexts are a great tool for any LDR’s arsenal — head here if you need some tips!

Play games.

Even Words With Friends can be sexy as long as you set the right rules. Do certain letters mean you have to take off certain clothes? Are there rewards for numbers of points? Now apply this to multi-player video games, or apps, or literally anything that the two of you can participate in, and you’ll find the competition has a whole new meaning.

Pick up the phone.

Think of phone sex as the LDR equivalent of wearing a blindfold. It’s all about the suspense, the timing, and the heightened senses. Use it to your advantage, and click here for inspiration.

Write erotica for each other.

If talking dirty or sending pictures isn’t really your jam, then it’s time to flex your writing chops with some erotica. Write yourself and your partner into different scenarios and use the power of language to appeal to all their senses. Send it through snail mail or pop it in an email — just be sure to warn them it’s NSFW!

Try Skype sex.

It’s an LDR staple for a reason. Skype (or any video chat) sex is the closest you can get to seeing your partner in the flesh, and getting comfortable exploring yourselves in front of each other is a whole different kind of hot.

Make a sex bucket list.

A big thrill of long-distance relationships is counting down until the two of you get to be in the same place again. Use this as an opportunity for some strategic planning (the sexy kind, of course). What do you want to do when you next see each other? What are some positions or techniques you’ve always wanted to try? Make a bucket list you can use to comfort yourself when the distance is hitting you hard.

Watch the same porn.

Something as simple as watching the same porn video can help foster intimacy. Knowing your partner sees what you’re seeing is a major turn on, and if you combine it with phone or video chat, the experience becomes even more intense.

Try a kissing simulator.

Desperate times call for desperate measures, and while this kissing simulator, dubbed the Kissenger, feels like it’s out of a sci-fi novel, it could be the solution to your frustration. Plug the devices into your phones and feel the pressure of each other’s lips through the technology of silicon. Unfortunately, no tongues allowed.

Tease each other with bets.

For LDR couples who semi-regularly see each other, making bets and teasing heats things up to the max before the big day. Try betting the other can’t abstain from masturbating for the week, or tease them with pictures that don’t give it all away. Even if you lose, you still kind of win.

Send voice clips throughout the day.

If a text just isn’t good enough, surprise your partner with a quick audio message. Let them know what you want to do to them, or what you’re doing to yourself. On iPhone, audio messages can be temporary, meaning one listen and it’s gone, leaving your partner thinking about it all day.

Experiment with erotic hypnosis.

Yes, it’s possible to have an orgasm without being touched, which is music to the ears of couples far away from each other. Through erotic hypnosis, people have claimed they reached climax just by thinking. Normally, this is through videos on YouTube or paid audio files, but after doing some research, why not try hypnotizing your partner yourself?

Send short videos.

If your Skype or FaceTime schedules just don’t line up, that doesn’t mean you can’t experience the benefit of video. Rather than traditional Skype sex, send a video of you solo. Then let them return the favor.

Wear a heartbeat ring.

One of the biggest signs that you’re turning on your partner is an increase in their heart rate. While you may not be able to feel it pounding in their chest, you can feel it in this ring. Of course, you can wear the ring all day as a romantic gesture, but be sure to take note of the changes the moment you two decide to talk dirty.

The Stars Of Hidden Figures Have Spoken Out Against Homophobic Kim Burrell

Hollywood is quickly coming down on Kim Burrell after her homophobic rant in December.

First, fans of Ellen demanded that the gospel singer not appear on the popular daytime talk show. Degeneres herself later confirmed on Twitter that Burrell would not come on the show. Now, Octavia Spencer, Pharrell Williams, and Janell Monáe have each spoken out against the Burrell. As the stars of December's Hidden Figures, these responses are quite notable the musician is featured on the film's soundtrack. (She joins Williams in the song "I See A Victory.")

As Entertainment Weekly reports, Williams was the first to post a condemnation on Twitter. The "Happy" singer shared a snapshot of text that reads:

"I condemn hate speech of any kind. There is no room in this world for any kind of prejudice. My greatest hope is for inclusion and love for all humanity in 2017 and beyond."

Monáe and Spencer quickly followed — both shared the image on Instagram with their own notes.

The Moonlight star and musician added that she would continue to support any such statements in the future. She writes in the caption: "Today and tomorrow and the next day I will continue to stand with other like minded people who condemn any and all statements and actions that would seek to deny the basic humanity of our fellow brothers and sisters."

Spencer's message is simple: "I agree. We are all God's children equal in his eyes. Hatred isn't the answer. Intolerance isn't the answer."

So, Kim Kardashian West is back for 2017.

She's sharing personal videos, family portraits, and responding to fan's tweets. After spending the latter part of 2016 dealing with some shit, she has reemerged after a 13-week social media cleanse with new content for all her followers.

And the content is so good.

Her latest post on Instagram is dedicated to her son, Saint West. The recent birthday boy (he turned one in December) is being held by Kardashian in the artsy, blurry image. She is more covered up than usual in an oversized white tee, thus leaving Saint to steal the spotlight in this epic get-up: a glorious cherry red velvet hoodie with matching sweatpants.

She captioned the picture, "my son" with a heart emoji (which is weird because this adorable child is actually my son, but it's ok).

my son ❤

Kardashian shared even more pictures on her website. In one, we get a close up look at Saint, who looks more and more like Kanye every day.

I expect "my daughter," "my husband," and "my Lumee " posts in the near future. All adorned in velvet, please.

L.A.'s Raddest Hair Colorist Spills The Looks You'll Want In 2017

It's the first week of the year, so we'll spare you the 'new year, new you' sentiment and cut right to the big question: What are the raddest hair trends going to be this year? If you're like us, the itch for newness is already creeping up, and a hair refresh is one of the best ways to scratch it. For guidance as we enter the new year, we're turning to one of L.A. most demanding colorists.

Enter: Cherin Choi. She's made a name for herself for her forward-thinking hair colors that are as flattering as they are edgy — and she took on a challenge over the past few weeks exclusively for R29.

Ahead, you'll find 16 cool looks she created for a few of her top clients for the new year. We broke them down by color family, from blond to rainbow hues, and included tips and tricks for getting exactly what you request and then maintaining it perfectly at home. Translation: Take this story to your colorist before everyone else does. Ready? Get clickin'!

The Blonds

Choi, like many in-demand colorists, can crank out platinum 'dos in her sleep, but it's the following soft, subtle versions of blond that she's giving her L.A. clients most often. She prefers to keep the color minimal, using small tweaks to tone and color placement to make each look bespoke and less demanding than a full head of bleach. Read: less upkeep.

Here are four inspiring looks to consider...

What To Ask For: High-lift highlights in a natural, beige blond.

Client Alanna Whittaker's hair was fine and fragile, thanks to previous highlighting, so Choi opted to lift her natural color with a high lift formula instead of bleach. If your hair is naturally light brown or blond, this will work for you; if your hair is darker, you'll need high lift color with bleached highlights for dimension. Either way, keep the color cool in tone (key word: beige), the sections baby fine, and only use color-safe products, she adds.

Upkeep: Touch-up highlights every 2 to 5 months. More highlights means more upkeep.

Photographed By Cherin Choi.

What To Ask For: Hand-painted tips and a face frame using foil packets.

Client Jennifer Hawkins had random blond highlights through her ends (think: grown out ombré), so Choi hand-painted her ends and then gave her face-framing highlights to bring it all together. Like the previous slide, the tone is cool. "Placement is everything," she says, noting that just a few pieces around the face can make your look brighter, without going super-blond.

Upkeep: None; this will grow out beautifully. Or, maintain with touch-ups every two months or so.

Photographed By Cherin Choi.

What To Ask For: Warm, golden highlights throughout, with a focus on the ends and around the face.

On the other side of the blond spectrum, you'll find warm tones, like this look Choi created on client Dani Song. This is a very similar technique to the previous slide, but Choi used warm, caramel-colors to create a golden look and extended the fine highlights to the top of her head, too. Avoid intense upkeep by sticking close to your natural shade: "Toners keep the color you desire, but if you blend with your natural hair color and get a base bump that is only slightly lighter than your natural color, you can maintain it easier than a base color that dramatically lifts your natural hair color."

Upkeep: Every two months or so to maintain — or just let it grow out.

Photographed By Cherin Choi.

What To Ask For: Golden blond full highlights; base color only if needed.

Here, we have an example of golden color done all over the head. Choi gave client Madison Williams a full head of highlights in a golden, warm blond color. She recommends sticking to only a full head of foils if you have blond to light brown hair; or, opt for a high-lift base if your hair is dark — but expect touch-ups every six weeks. "Avoiding base colors allows you to keep your color longer," Choi says. "If the color is lifted to the right tone, it can really last a long time with little to no upkeep." (Again, another reason to stick close to your natural color if you want to limit visits.)

Upkeep: Stop by for a gloss for some shine every three months, then a face frame 3 to 4 months after the full highlight, Choi says.

The Technicolors

Choi has made vibrant rainbow color a big part of her business, turning out enviable blues, reds, pinks, greens — and every color in between — on the regular. One universal trait among them all? She likes to keep the root natural, which gives a softer finish and keeps the grow-out feeling purposeful, not something that should be hidden away from sight.

Here are four inspiring looks to consider...

What To Ask For: Fiery orange with a natural root.

Choi started with virgin hair, with very minimal color at her client's ends. The secret to scoring a similar look at your local salon? "Coloring from the ends up," Choi explains. "Her roots were only highlighted around the face and the rest was blended up from the bottom." The more vibrant, the faster it will fade: "Washing with color-safe products in cold water will keep your color vibrant longer," she says.

Upkeep: " Minimal, because it grows down like ombré," Choi says. "The orange color itself will fade quickly, but it's fun to enjoy all the tones as it washes out." Prefer to keep it looking like this? You'll need appointments every three to four weeks for a color refresh.

Photographed By Cherin Choi.

What To Ask For: Full highlights with a smoky violet color and a natural root.

Choi started this look on virgin hair and calls it a "smoky lilac." To score a similar finish, ask for a full head of highlights, with most bleaching done at the ends, with a gray-based violet hue on top. Tip: Use purple shampoo to keep it vibrant, Choi says.

Upkeep: Choi recommends letting this one fade on its own: "The color fades out with every wash, so it will go more lavender, then eventually lighter and blonder." Or you can have it touched up every four weeks.

Photographed By Cherin Choi.

What To Ask For: Magenta color over blond, ombré highlights.

Client Ahmna Dailey's hair may look like it's always been this flattering shade of red, but this was actually a major color correction, Choi says. (Good news: There's hope for achieving rainbow color for hair in any state.) To get this look, she lightened her client's hair with highlights, then opted for a deep magenta hue. This will fade to pink over time, she explains. "Wash with cold water if you like it vibrant; wash warm if you want to see a different tone with each wash."

Upkeep: " Wash and enjoy the tones as your hair fades," Choi says. "Magenta is fun because eventually you get pink color that lasts."

Photographed By Cherin Choi.

What To Ask For: Copper or bronze color over light blond highlights with a natural root.

This is a brand-new color out this month — Bronze from the Joico Metallics line — so for a similar result, here's what Choi says to do: "It goes best over on level 9 highlights," she says. "It will last even longer if the hair is only a level 8, but fades best when the hair is blond." (Your colorist will understand this message.) Choi's client, Chie Song, had previously grown-out highlights, so Choi lifted her base, leaving her roots intact, before applying the color.

Upkeep: Choi calls this look "high maintenance — with a cute coral fade." Translation: Stop by every three weeks to maintain, but don't feel like you need to, as it'll look cute along every step of the way.

Photographed By Cherin Choi.

The Bronds

As you likely know by now, brond is the happy place between blond and brown — and a great color to strive for if you want to go lighter, brighter, or more golden, but don't want to commit to regular appointments. The tone makes all the difference, which you'll notice ahead.

Here are four inspiring looks to consider...

What To Ask For: Golden blond highlights with a natural root.

This look is one of the most popular, if for no other reason than you can visit the salon only a few times per year. And it's damn flattering on every hair texture and skin tone, of course. Ask for a "dark to light gradation with golden blonde ends" to get it, Choi says.

Upkeep: A retouch is needed in eight weeks if you want to keep the face-framing pieces in place, but it's not necessary. Toner every 3 months will keep the hue in check, then come back in in four to six months for a partial highlight, which connects the top dark sections and lighter ends, Choi explains.

Photographed By Cherin Choi.

What To Ask For: A brunette base with golden highlights and blond tips.

Choi affectionately refers to this look as "spun gold," created using her client's own natural color as the rich, brown base. (Again, this is a great option to remove any kind of commitment from the equation, but you can also opt for a different base if you prefer.)

The beauty of this look is in the two-tone highlights, which start just off the scalp in a golden tone and end in brighter blond tips. To keep the tone truer for longer, heed her advice and pick up a sulfate-free shampoo, like inphenom hair treatment conditioner, and Oribe's Gold Lust oil to keep the end hydrated and soft.

Upkeep: "Eventually the tone of the blonde will change and go slightly warmer," Choi warns, but notes that it can be updated with a gloss in the salon.

Photographed By Cherin Choi.

What To Ask For: Full, honey highlights with darker roots to lighter ends.

Want further proof that this look lasts for months? Client Ana Boyadijian hadn't been in for the better part of a year — which is totally allowed with this look. "Anaʼs highlights were last done in May," Choi says. "She came in seven months after because it finally became a full on ombré." A break can be very beneficial for hair health: "Bleaching is not a conditioning process and is best maintained with trims, oils or milks (products), and Olaplex!" Choi says.

Upkeep: You can go as long as this client did, or to maintain opt for a face frame highlight at three months and a full highlight whenever desired.

Photographed By Cherin Choi.

What To Ask For: Start with strategically placed, light toffee highlights on the ends and a natural root; top with a warm gloss.

Choi's client got highlights back in September, then came in three months later to have them warmed up with a gloss, not touched up — a great trick to extend the life of your sun-kissed strands without maintaining a bleached look. Keep the tone warm, she says, and use Davines copper color shampoo and conditioner to do so. "Warmer tones feel higher maintenance because you feel them fading quickly, so tone as needed — and avoid over-washing!"

Upkeep: A toner every three (or so) months and highlights every six (or so) months.

Photographed By Cherin Choi.

The Brunettes

Finally, a look at the deeper shades that Choi sees being wildly popular among her L.A. clients this year. The secret, no matter the tone or the level of darkness? Dimension, which she builds in with variances in the color. Note that the women ahead all have naturally-dark hair, but you can fake the look on light hair with a deep, dark base — but expect to maintain roots every 6 weeks if you want to be part of the dark side.

Here are four inspiring looks to consider...

What To Ask For: A face frame of highlights and lighter ends on a dark base.

Client Andi Hester's hair was virgin, so Choi gave her what she calls "sun-kissed brunette." That is, a subtle face frame and tips that are a little lighter than her natural dark brown color.

Upkeep: "It's an easy grow-out, as a toner can maintain the color seen in the photo," Choi explains. "It can be re-toned as often as every three to four months."

Photographed By Cherin Choi.

What To Ask For: Minimal highlighting that's slightly lighter than your natural color.

Client Kellie Johnsen is a "natural brunette with a few lighter tips on the ends," Choi says, so she enhanced this with light highlights all over — which added dimension without adding any required upkeep. The best way to keep it fresh? "Just a toner if you want to add some more color," Cho says.

Upkeep: This is very low-maintenance, Choi says, so you don't need to do anything unless you want to tweak it to be darker or lighter— but still opt for color-safe products, she adds.

Photographed By Cherin Choi.

What To Ask For: Full, caramel highlights with brighter ends and darker roots.

Client Julie Jung had nearly virgin hair, short of some old color at her ends, so Choi gave her dark strands a full highlight, opting for caramel tones and a lighter finish at her ends paired with barely any color at the roots.

Upkeep: " Toner every three months will make for a low-maintenance grow-in," Choi says, "then you can highlight for more dimension as needed."

Photographed By Cherin Choi.

What To Ask For: Blended, natural-looking highlights with lighter ends.

Prefer something cooler in tone? Client Kiran Khanmohamad arrived with grown-out highlights that had become a bit like ombré, Choi says, which is common. She refreshed her look with what she calls "modern, soft ombré of dark to light, ash brunette." Ask for well-blended highlights that are lighter at the ends, which delivers a soft look that grows out easily.

Upkeep: " Minimal upkeep other than an occasional toner and a partial highlight to blend in three to four months," Choi says. Then just let it grow!

6 Potentially Awkward Romantic Run-Ins At The Golden Globes

If you're Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart, the Golden Globes can be an excellent place to meet your future spouse. If you're anyone else, the awards ceremony is more likely to set the scene for an awkward encounter with your famous ex. On the bright side, all that free-flowing booze means you'll probably be too tipsy to really care. And with any luck, you'll have a swimsuit model or Jonas Brother on your arm.

Though the full list of presenters for Sunday's Golden Globes has yet to be announced, a quick look at the nominees reveals some tricky situations in the making. A few former couples will be in attendance, dramatically increasing the possibility of an uncomfortable run-in on the red carpet or even a dash to the restroom for a quick cry. At least, that's how we imagine Leonardo DiCaprio will react when he sees former flame Blake Lively and nominee Ryan Reynolds making goo-goo eyes at one another.

Will these reunions result in a cold shoulder, or a rekindling of a romance that once was? And is there a better form of revenge against an ex than winning a bit shiny trophy while they pick at crudités and make painful small talk with a C-lister?

Emma Stone & Andrew Garfield

Full disclosure: We're rooting for these former lovebirds — they split in 2015 — to recover that lovin' feeling. After all, Garfield, nominated for his performance in Hacksaw Ridge, is still gushing about his admiration for ex-girlfriend Stone, a nominee for La La Land. Maybe he should wear his old Spidey costume under his tux to sweeten the deal?

Matt Damon & Winona Ryder

Yes, these two dated — for two whole years! In addition to being a presumptive presenter given his win last year, the now-married Damon also produced the critical darling Manchester by the Sea. Ryder, meanwhile, is a nominee for her work on Stranger Things. As such, they'll have plenty of opportunities to reminisce about those double-dates with Ben and Gwynnie.

Nicole Kidman & Jimmy Fallon

Rest assured that host Fallon will find an opportunity to embarrass himself in front of Lion nominee Kidman, who has made much of her former crush on the clueless (and since-married) Tonight Show host.

Gael García Bernal & Natalie Portman

Bernal stands to win his second Golden Globe in a row for Mozart in the Jungle, while former flame Portman is a frontrunner for Jackie. She's also married and pregnant with her second child, so the chances of any random drunk-dialing are nil.

Seth MacFarlane & Emilia Clarke

He stars in Sing; her show, Game of Thrones, is nominated for Best Television, Drama. Fortunately, their 2012 romance ended, by all accounts, amicably.

Ryan Reynolds & Scarlett Johansson

Like MacFarlane, ScarJo also stars in Sing, nominated in the animation category. Her first husband, meanwhile, is a nominee for Deadpool, and will almost certainly be joined at the hip with new wife Blake Lively. Lively has her own ex scare to confront: Leonardo DiCaprio, a winner last year, will likely attend as a presenter.

Fifth Harmony had a pretty rough final few weeks of 2016. First, Lauren Jauregui was found to be in possession of marijuana by airport security. (No charges were pressed.) Then, Camila Cabello abruptly quit the group, prompting an ugly exchange of strongly-worded letters between Cabello and the remaining members of 5H.

But things are looking up for the women already — Jauregui in particular. Last weekend, she performed "Back To Me," her collaboration with Marian Hill, for the first time ever.

Jauregui joined the American songwriting duo during their set at the SnowGlobe Festival in Lake Tahoe on Friday. The performance and its reception were delightfully drama-free. Proud fans captured footage and shared it on Twitter, praising Jauregui's performance of her first major solo project.

The singer herself tweeted, "It's so cool to sing your own words and watch people in the crowd fuck with it..truly the most incredible experience #thankyou."

It's great to see Jauregui is happily pursuing her solo career while remaining part of the British group. (For now, at least.)
