There's hardly a day that goes by when we don't click over to Topshop. Yes, we're shopping editors, so it's our job to chronicle trends, sales, and new arrivals. But, we're also customers, just like you — and you can bet this fast-fashion brand is well-accounted for on our monthly credit-card statements. Like on any ol' Wednesday, we ventured over to the site today — and imagine our joy when we found out that the retailer just made its entire fall runway collection available to shop.

Get ready to swoon. Everything you loved back in February— cool puffer jackets, girlie pinafore dresses, contrast-fabric skirts — is now just a "click to purchase" away. We'll concede that these clothes and accessories are on the pricier side, but they're really a thing of beauty (and already selling like hotcakes). Get 'em before they're gone — you know where to start.

Somehow, UNIQLO always anticipates our needs. Whether we're about to have a hankering for sensible basics or Helmut Lang sweatpants, the Japanese retailer just knows it's coming. Because it's so tuned in to our sartorial desires, the brand is bringing back a curated selection from its popular +J Collection, which hasn't seen UNIQLO's shelves for a couple of seasons. But, we missed it, and the U knew we wanted it back.

+J was born out of a collaboration with German designer Jil Sander back in 2009. WWD reports that while Sander didn't come out of retirement for this revival, UNIQLO picked out some of her most popular designs, which range from button-downs to outerwear, for a 42-piece comeback. The first look at the final cut reveals well-tailored, structured coats that won't break the bank — items will retail from $39.90 to $229.90.

The +J Collection will be available for purchase online and in select UNIQLO locations on October 10. But, if you're in Philadelphia, you can shop it a week earlier: To celebrate the new storefront on Chestnut Street, UNIQLO will be premiering the collection in the city of brotherly love on October 3. The rest of us will wait anxiously for our (second) chance at the goods.

+J Collection for UNIQLO, available Friday, October 10 on uniqlo.com.

Quirky Excursions That Show A Different Side Of London

0
0
You've probably seen the Tower of London, Buckingham Palace, and Westminster Abbey. But, to really appreciate London town, you’ve got to look beyond its iconic monuments. This U.K. capital has served as a cradle for rock and roll, an incubator for English comedy, a mecca for filmmakers, and an epicenter for artists. Experience London from a different perspective with five “veddy British” encounters that reveal this destination's enduring, endearing appeal.

Photography and Street-Art Tour of Shoreditch

In July, Buenos-Aires based Foto Ruta introduced a variety of photography-focused tours to the U.K. capital, including “Streetscape” walks around some of the city’s off-the-beaten-path neighborhoods. With just three or four clients per four-hour tour, “Streetscape” provides intensive instruction with a professional photographer, who will not only take you to the coolest spots, but will also offer advice on how to capture street scenes with your camera.

One of the hottest ‘hoods on Foto Ruta’s lineup is Shoreditch, a former industrial area that has been transformed into an al fresco gallery for roving graffiti artists. Their constantly mutating murals serve as a backdrop for a kaleidoscope of cultures; people from all walks of life parade down Shoreditch's streets, which are lined with retro boutiques, hip restaurants, coffee shops and cocktail bars.

Mayfair Gallery Tour

Whereas Shoreditch is alluring in a gritty way, Mayfair is appealingly posh. But, there’s one thing these diverse neighborhoods have in common: Like Shoreditch, Mayfair is also a hotbed for art, with some of London’s most upscale galleries lining its cozy cache of streets.

Brown’s Hotel offers a Saturday art tour, headed each week by a different gallery director. The tour kicks off in the hotel’s library with a de rigueur cup of tea (or coffee, if you prefer), followed by a visit to a quartet of galleries. Afterwards, you’ll be treated to a three-course lunch at HIX Mayfair. For a cocktail — and an eyeful of fashion photos — pop into the hotel’s Donovan Bar, featuring black-and-white images by acclaimed photographer Terence Donovan.

Faulty Towers Dining Experience

Comedic giants Monty Python claimed that their July 20 show at London’s O2 Arena would be their last live (mostly) performance ever. But, the improvisational spirit epitomized by Python co-founder John Cleese still lives on at Faulty Towers: The Dining Experience.

After Monty Python uncoiled, Cleese went on to co-write and star in Fawlty Towers, a short-lived sitcom about a rude, inept hotelier in Torquay, Devon. When he wasn’t offending unfortunate guests, Cleese, as Basil Fawlty, was arguing with his wife, Sybil, or shouting commands at Manuel, a Spanish waiter/bellhop with a minimal grasp of English, who invariably misinterpreted Basil’s instructions to hilarious effect.

Attending a Faulty Towers lunch or dinner show at the Torquay Suite Theatre at London’s Charing Cross Hotel is like being thrown into the midst of an original Fawlty Towers sketch, with you playing the role of "guest." The three-member cast (Basil, Sybil, and Manuel) perfectly embodies the original actors’ every tick and twitch, involving the audience in their madcap misadventures throughout the two-hour performance, which takes place over the course of your meal. You’ll laugh. You’ll cry (with laughter). You might even snort hot soup through your nose. Just be sure to check it first for the chef’s lost false teeth.

Classic Rock and Beatles Tour

The Beatles. The Rolling Stones. Eric Clapton. Pink Floyd. Queen. The list of musicians linked to London is like a Who’s Who (including The Who, too) of rock gods.

When you board Access All Areas’ Magic Bus for a tour of classic rock and Beatles sites, fasten your seat belt for a wild ride through the '60s and '70s. For the next three-and-a-half hours, your guide will regale you with anecdotes and a soundtrack of greatest hits as you pass by legendary musical landmarks.

It turns out, the Chelsea drugstore mentioned in the Rolling Stones' “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” sells "far more dangerous products now: It’s a McDonald’s,” says tour guide Bob Barber. And, the Pizza Express just down the Kings Road? That’s where Eric Clapton wrote “Sunshine of Your Love,” back in its pre-pizza days, when it was still a block of flats.

You’ll wheel by the Notting Hill basement apartment where Jimi Hendrix died. You'll scope out mansions linked to the likes of Mick Jagger, Paul McCartney, David Bowie, and Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page. And, you'll peek at numerous recording studios, including Abbey Road. You’ll have a chance to traverse that street's famous crossing, too, and check out the memorabilia at Sticky Fingers restaurant, which is owned by the Stones’ Bill Wyman.

Movie Tours

Whether you’re an admirer of 007, Dr. Who, Harry Potter, or Sherlock Holmes, Brit Movie Tours has the London adventure for you. Wee wizards can have a photo snapped as they push a trolley "through the wall" at Platform 9 3/4, while wannabe super-spies will have an opportunity to walk in James Bond’s wing-tipped footsteps at film locations around the city — including an atmospheric square where real-life double agents once worked.

Sci-Fi fans can explore the setting of the Earth Prison in Dr. Who’s "Frontier in Space" and the site where Daleks battled in "Remembrance of the Daleks." If Holmes is your man, you’ll have a chance to practice your sleuthing skills at sites featured in the BBC Sherlock series and Robert Downey Jr.’s Sherlock Holmes movies, as well as places that inspired Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s mystery novels.

New York Fashion Week is coming to a close, and, dare we say, we're not exactly mad about it. Between running from show to show and writing about the latest beauty looks, these past few days have left us a bit burned out.

But, it's kind of hard to complain when we think about all the people who've been working their butts off on the runways and behind the scenes. The designers, hairstylists, makeup artists, and models are the real MVPs of Fashion Week, and they deserve all the praise.

How do they manage to do it, you ask? The Huffington Post has the insider scoop — straight from the superstars themselves. Head over to HuffPo to read up on how Karlie Kloss, Tracy Reese, Ted Gibson, and others keep sane during NYFW — from talking to their moms (awww), to sneaking in cat naps, to meditating. And, let us know in the comments: What do you do when you're feeling stressed? (The Huffington Post)

Now, You Can Stay Caffeinated Every Minute Of Every Day

Stay_Caffieinated_slidePhotography By Winnie Au.
Ah, caffeine. There’s not much we’d be able to do without you (including waking up and, you know, working past 2 p.m.) Now, the latest GU energy gel flavor wants to keep the good stuff pumping through your body at all times — even during your workout.

The just-released addition to the GU family is buzz-worthy in more ways than one. The brand's press release notes that the new Caramel Macchiato flavor has 40 mg of caffeine — twice the amount typically found in GU's formulas. But, we don’t yet see caffeine noted on the site’s ingredient list. Being the extreme coffee-lovers we are, we reached out for clarification and were assured that there is indeed 40 mg. of the stimulant in Caramel Macchiato — the same amount found in the brand's Jet Blackberry and Espresso Love flavors. (For your reference, a cup of coffee contains roughly 95 mg.)

Avid exercisers typically use these formulated gels to keep energy levels from dropping during longer bouts of training. During exercise, your body uses fat and carbohydrates as fuel for your muscles, and these gels and chomps are designed to provide you with a quick, portable hit of carbohydrates, electrolytes, and calories — replenishing your depleted energy stores. (A "chomp" or "blok," depending on the brand, is the same concept as a gel, just presented as a chewy gummy.) The jury’s still out on when to use these energy boosts, since best practices are dependent on your body’s specific rate of absorption and the intensity of your workout, as well as your training level and stomach sensitivity. Caffeine, specifically, has a long, interesting history with exercise; it seems to improve endurance performance and, contrary to popular thought, it does notdehydrate you.

Early this year, Caramel Macchiato GU was pitted against flavors such as Salted Watermelon and Apple Cinnamon in a contest to be named the "official course flavor" at Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series events. Salted Watermelon won, but it looks like the coffee lover's flavor is still making it to shelves. (The brand also released a new raspberry chomp for those of you who prefer a more straightforward fuel flavor.)

Now, we shall sit back and wait for Apple to announce a wearable that provides caffeine injections.

Joyeux Anniversaire, Karl! From Us & Your Closest Pals

There may be few physical gifts that we could bestow upon Kaiser Karl on the day on his (maybe?) 81st birthday. Heck, we're sure he's already got the new iPhone. But, as the special day of the man who's stood at the helm of Chanel since '83, this occasion deserves some extra attention. Preferably with something money can't buy: friends.

So, in honor of Lagerfeld's birthday, we've dug into our old albums and retrieved heartfelt moments between the birthday boy and some of his nearest and dearest. And, since he is such a quotable character, we've tapped into our inner Lagerfelds to craft what we believe he would have said. We only hope we captured at least a bit of his wit.

Joyeux anniversaire, dear Karl! Here's to a lots more good times, good friends, and good conversation.

Iggy Azalea Is Over Summer, Says Her Fancy Fall Outfit

The weather is starting to do that thing again — where it's hot and humid one day but windy and decidedly fall-like the next. In the early weeks of September, anything is possible. Though, if Iggy Azalea is calling the sartorial shots, this means it's officially trench season. And, there's no turning back. We (and our serious coat habit) are inclined to agree.

Our closets are already craving fall fabrics and colors as well as a transition back to excessively layered looks that have become synonymous with cooler temperatures. Azalea's outfit from last night's Calvin Klein Reveal perfume launch party sums up the sentiment. Her custom Calvin Klein wrap jacket, mock-neck dress, and Christian Louboutin knee-high boots not only embrace a classic style, but rev it up a little, too. If you're feeling extra fancy yourself, click ahead to shop a few similar pieces from Azalea's getup.

4 DIY Hairstyles That Take Unwashed Hair To The Next Level

In a dream world, we would all roll out of bed with perfectly imperfect hair. You know, like the stuff you see in rom-coms and on Kate Moss. But, let’s be honest, we all have mornings when the snooze button wins and those extra ten minutes of shut-eye feel positively critical. However, when you’re blurry-eyed with coffee on the brain, who can be bothered to wash, dry, and style unruly tresses?

And though we love the taming power of a classic ponytail, the pro S.F. brunch scene demands a bit more panache than that. So, prepare to reboot those tousled tresses with this DIY guide for unwashed hair. Brace yourselves, bedheads — this quartet of easy-peasy styles are just for you.

Style 1: Fake A Milkmaid Braid

Photographed by Aeschleah DeMartino

Step 1: Part hair down the middle.

Step 2: Part the back of the hair horizontally behind the ear to create four equal sections.

Step 3: Take each of the four sections and secure into a ponytail.

Step 4: Separate the ponytail into two equal parts. Then, twist both pieces to the right while cross-wrapping the right side over the left.

Step 5: Repeat twists on each of the four ponytails.

Step 6: Begin wrapping the twists counter-clockwise around the crown of the head, securing with bobby pins as you go.

Step 7: Loosen the twists where needed and use extra pins to hide any exposed elastic bands.

When longer tresses just can’t be left to their own devices, this style gives the romantic effect of a milkmaid braid and gets unruly hair off of your neck (and your mind!).

Style 2: Half Awake And Half Up

Step 1: Part hair in the center. Take a three-inch section from the part to the ear.

Step 2: Then, braid the hair starting just behind the ear (be sure to direct the braid back since you’ll be pinning it in that direction) and repeat on the opposite side. Wrap the first braid from right to left across the back of the head and secure with a bobby pin.

Step 3: Wrap the first braid from left to right across the back of the head and secure with a bobby pin.

Step 4: Wrap the second braid, crossing the first braid. Secure with pins.

Step 5: Loop the remainder of the braids back in the opposite direction and pin to create a woven effect. Then, tuck the loose ends under your braids to hide the elastic bands and secure with pins.

Your friends will think you were up at the crack of dawn creating this messy-chic style (shhh…we won’t tell them it only took a few minutes!).

Style 3: Old Hollywood

Step 1: Create a deep side part.

Step 2: Comb hair to the opposite side and secure into a ponytail just below the ear (a spray of water will help with any flyaways).

Step 3: Take your favorite scarf and fold it in half lengthwise.

Step 4: Loop the scarf through the rubber band until you have two equal lengths on each side.

Step 5: Wrap the scarf once around the ponytail to hide the rubber band.

Step 6: Begin a very loose braid incorporating the two ends of the scarf into two of your three sections.

Step 7: Stop a few inches shy of the ends and secure with an elastic. Take one of the loose ends of the scarf that is around the elastic and tuck it in to secure.

Rather than fighting greasy roots, work with them using the natural oils in your hair to create a smooth side pony. Adding a colorful scarf will disguise any unruly ends!

Style 4: Knot Your Average Brunch Hair

Step 1: Take a three-inch section at the top of the head.

Step 2: Twist the hair and tie into a top knot. Secure with a single bobby pin, leaving the end of the hair out. For super-thick hair, you may need an extra pin or two.

Step 3: Add a second section of hair an inch below the first and combine the loose tail with that from your first knot.

Step 4: Begin to twist and tie into a second knot just below the first. Secure with a bobby pin.

Step 5: Continue this process, creating knots down the back of the head until you reach the nape of the neck. Tuck the remaining tail under and pin.

The texture in your "next-day" hair will make it much easier to work with than squeaky-clean strands, so give this sleek style a whirl.

In The Future, You'll Be Able To Make Your Own Morphine

0

paginatedPhotographed by Jessica Nash.
It turns out there are more uses for yeast than creating those ill-fated carbs. In a recent study, scientists were able to engineer yeast to make it produce morphine.

In this study, recently published in Nature Chemical Biology, the researchers were able to engineer strains of baker's yeast to convert the drug precursor thebaine into recognizable opiates. These included codeine, morphine, hydrocodone, and oxycodone. Although producing them required the yeast to express genes from bacteria and the classic poppy plant, the resulting compounds were indistinguishable from the ones you'd find in pill or liquid form at the hospital.

Making the stuff required some creative biochemical engineering. The researchers started with the S. cerevisiae strain of yeast, commonly used in leavening bread and fermenting beer. Then, the team spliced in the opium-synthesizing T6ODM, COR and CODM genes from the poppy plant and the morA and morB genes from the bacteria P. putida, which naturally converts morphine and codeine into other products (e.g. hydromorphone and hydrocodone) when mixed with water. This way, the scientists conquered two steps at once: creating the opium and turning it into something more interesting (and medically valuable). Once production was complete, they compared the opiate compounds to commercially available standards — with favorable results.

All of this suggests that one day, we won't need the poppy or the industry that surrounds it to satisfy our rising need for morphine-like painkillers. But, that also means that we might see the rise of the yeast drug dealer. Or, yeast that produces cannabinoids, says io9. I mean, really, bread is just so basic.

The last time we saw Liv Tyler, she was bruised and bloodied on Sunday's season finale of The Leftovers. Today, a much more glowing version of the actress stepped out onto the streets of New York.

Why the added radiance, you ask?

Liv Tyler is pregnant! According to E! News, the 37-year-old actress is expecting her second child, and first with her new beau, Dave Gardner. The actress' reps have not confirmed the pregnancy. Tyler and Gardner have only been dating for a few months, but have been pretty hot and heavy since they were set up by mutual friend Kate Moss. Gardner, a soccer agent, is also friends with David Beckham, which means the Beckham kids will have a brand new playmate in about nine months or so.

This will be Tyler's second child. She has a 9-year-old son, Milo, with Spacehog rocker Royston Langdon. Gardner has two kids with his ex-wife, Davinia Taylor. (E! Online)

Office-Friendly Slit Skirts? Yes, They’re A Thing

Poor slits. Often preceded with “up-to-there,” “sky-high,” or “ultra-revealing,” the misunderstood style is usually typecast as a sexy-outfit-only look. But, the split skirt has so much more potential than simply something flashy to wear on a night out. It can even play a major role in work wardrobes.

Before you double-check with human resources, let us explain. Not every cut is 15-inches high. Plenty of office-friendly pencil skirts on the market right now feature modest slits that don’t fall into pelvic territory (not that there’s anything wrong with that). 9/11 Changed My Life, But Doesn't Define It

On September 11, 2001, Francesca Picerno was a 9-year-old fourth grader in Holmdel, NJ, where she lived with her parents and two brothers. Her dad, Matthew, worked at Cantor Fitzgerald on the 104th floor of One World Trade Center. He was killed in the terrorist attacks.

Now 22, Francesca spoke to Refinery29 about her memories of that tragic day, the media coverage of the events, and how the children of 9/11 victims are not letting the attacks define their lives.

What was the day of the attack like for you?
"I was at school. When we were lined up for lunch around noon, I saw my neighbor come out of the office to get me. I was wondering why my neighbor was there, but she said my mom sent her to pick me up and take me home. I didn’t think anything of it because the teachers hadn’t told us anything — we were just kids.

"My brothers were already back, and tons of people — people I didn’t even know — were in the house. I saw the news but wasn’t paying attention to it because I didn’t really understand. My mom had told me that my dad was not coming home that night."

Do you know now what happened that morning?
"I know my mom talked to my dad. He called her [after the first tower was struck] and explained that he didn’t know what was going on, but he was okay and would call again later. Then the second tower was hit, and he never called back.

"My dad was one of the first bodies they found — about eight days later. It was amazing they found him, a lot of people buried empty caskets. I remember I was about to get in the shower, and my mom sat me on her lap and said, 'Listen, I don’t think Daddy’s coming home.' I didn’t really process it, I remember that I didn't cry. A few days later we had a funeral. We even ran out of eucharist during the mass because so many people came."

How did your perception of 9/11 changed as you grew up?
"My childhood from fourth grade to about eighth grade was a big blur. I remember having a lot of trouble when I was 16, arguably when a girl needs her dad the most. I was about 14 when I started to really realize what had happened, to understand the politics of the event, and its significance in history."

This Thursday is the 13th anniversary of 9/11. How do you like spend the day?
"Usually, I try to take a moment for myself, whether it's an hour or a minute, to remember my dad and pay a little tribute. I might post some old pictures on Facebook, and I'll visit the cemetery, try to sit there and relax, for some peace of mind. I'll play music and open a bottle of wine or smoke a cigar (don’t tell my mom!).

"After that, I usually relax with my mom and family. We always get a lot of people reaching out, and it’s really supportive. It’s kind of become just a normal day."

How about this year?
"This year, I will be on site. I am going to visit the memorial. It’s gorgeous, and I haven’t been to the museum. I also usually have a few interviews right outside the site."

What do you think about how the legacy of 9/11 — and your dad — has been used politically?
"I just wish that after all of that tragedy, people wouldn’t be so stupid. What are we fighting for? It’s not a pissing contest. It baffles me that people still haven’t learned that dropping bombs or blowing yourself up won’t get you anywhere. It’s depressing."

You mentioned earlier that you’ve got some interviews on 9/11. And, obviously, I’m interviewing you now. What do you think of the way the media has covered this story?
"It’s too much all the time. Reporters always want to make it a sob story — and of course, it was devastating. But, the coverage is always about how everybody is dead; the stories are never about the living. It’s never about the people who thrived from the experience, or the families who rose from the ashes. I wish people would focus more on how we are today, how there is no more sadness left, now we just remember.

What are you up to these days?
"I’m making music. I just quit my job in an accounting office, actually. Last December, I was hooked up with a producer, based out of Philly, and now I have 13 original songs. We’ve been cutting them, and I recently released my first single.

"You know, it’s funny: I’ve met a lot of talented and amazing people because of this tragedy — many through Tuesday’s Children. We all have our own goals, our own life paths — and just because 9/11 happened, and even though it is a huge tragedy, we have grown and matured. We’re all adults. That’s something that happened in our lives, not what our lives are all about it."

What’s next?
"I just recently moved back to my mom’s house in Holmdel, NJ to collect my thoughts and save up money because I am hoping to move to L.A. next spring."

Tuesday’s Children is a NY-based nonprofit organization that was created to support the healing of 9/11 families and children.

What Your Office Body Language Says About You

You may speak company lingo like you just schooled trainees at a regional conference, but are your gestures saying the opposite about you?

Instead of worrying what your coworkers are saying behind your back, you should be more concerned with what your actual back is saying behind your back.

No, seriously. Slouching, for example, doesn’t just tell someone you weren’t a ballerina in your early days; it can be interpreted as insecure, as if you are trying to take up as little space as possible, curling your body into itself in hopes of disappearing. (Dramatic, but true, say the experts.)

Here are more things you’re likely, unknowingly, doing that speak octaves louder than your words.

Your Signature Strut
Do you race around your workspace, even for a coffee refill? Or, is your walk closer to a peaceful pace? Eliot Hoppe, communication trainer and author on the subject, tells The Huffington Post, “The slower the walk, the more internal dialogue….And, the more brisk the walk, the more confident the person is, the more upright and erect you become.”

The takeaway: Strolling conveys a sense of nonchalance, so even if you aren’t in a hurry, adding a pep to your step will make you seem more alert and focused on the task at hand, even if it’s small. Who wouldn’t want to give someone like that more advanced projects or responsibility in the office?

The Way You Stand
The way you walk often correlates to the stance you assume when at rest.

Interestingly, social psychologist Amy Cuddy shows in a TED Talk how you can implement “power posing” into your workday by standing in a posture of confidence. Think spine straight, chest out, and widened stance. Believe it or not, these physical changes can affect the testosterone and cortisol levels in the brain, making you seem more assertive.

Where You Point Your Feet
Apparently, where your feet are facing says a lot about how you feel about your current conversation.

“Our brains,” explains Vanessa Van Edwards, “actually subconsciously pay attention to a person’s feet. You will notice our feet tend to point in the direction we want to go.”

As you can imagine, if you are truly interested in what the person is saying to you, you will likely move in closer with your toes pointed straight toward the speaker. But, if you’re desperately trying to escape, your feet will be looking like you're ready to make a move — straight out of the conversation.

Edwards says, “…at a networking event, someone who is itching to leave might be talking to someone but have their feet pointed toward the door. So, if you want to show you are actively engaged, point your feet and angle your body toward the person you are speaking with.”

Hand Gestures
The frequency in which you use your hands to emphasize your words reveals your intelligence level, says recent research shared by Anne Murphy Paul of Business Insider’s The Brilliant Blog.

Citing studies by Susan Goldin-Meadow, a professor of psychology at the University of Chicago, she explains how hand gestures play a supporting role in the speaker’s story, filling in the holes in verbal language with body language to round it out.

Mismatching hand gestures with contradictory language displays the highest level of intelligence — nodding your head yes but saying no, for example.

Showing this type of control over mind and body exudes a sense of authority. Keep in mind though that using hand gestures above the waist when public speaking can be distracting, and therefore more hurtful than helpful to your professional branding. But, when hands are kept low and move with purpose, you can emphasize points in a memorable and assertive way.

Yes, actions speak louder than words, but how — you’re likely wondering — are you supposed to retrain your body to be in sync with the image in your brain? It simply takes practice, according to Carol Kinsey Goman’s program “The Silent Language of Leaders: How Body Language Can Help — or Hurt — How You Lead.” Taking time throughout the day to take note of your nonverbal cues and adjusting them as necessary will do the trick if you keep practicing consistently.

Goman also mentions in her Forbes article, “10 Simple and Powerful Body Language Tips for 2013,” that a great way to make you stick to your changes, especially if you’re on a leadership level, is to tell some of your team about your challenge. They can keep you in check, and will know and respect the role you’re assuming.

Moreover, when you obtain more control over your nonverbal communication, Goman says you can trick your brain into following your body’s lead:

No matter the task, when you grimace or frown while doing it, you are sending your brain the message, ‘This is really difficult. I should stop." The brain then responds by sending stress chemicals into your bloodstream. And, this creates a vicious circle: The more stressed you are, the more difficult the task becomes.

Conversely, when you smile, your brain gets the message, “It’s not so bad. I can do this!”

Body language — it’s powerful stuff.

Ryan Phillipe's Twitter Tribute To His Daughter Is The Sweetest

It's hard to believe that Ryan Phillippe is the father of a teenager. It feels like just yesterday the ageless actor first leapt off the screen and into the pages of Tiger Beat. But, when Phillippe took to Twitter Tuesday to commemorate his daughter Ava's fifteenth birthday, he subsequently reminded all of us just how old we really are.

"15 yrs ago today, was my last [day] on The Way of the Gun. A helicopter waited off set to transport me from the 'Mexican brothel' in Utah to Cedars Sinai in Beverly Hills. With my stomach in knots, exhausted & dirty, covered in syrupy fake blood & shards of candy glass the heli[copter] found the pad and I was taken to an area to sterilize myself. I made it to my then wife's bedside w/ two hours to spare before. My baby girl first entered the world. 15 years ago I learned what love truly is,"he tweeted.

Have you gotten all the "awws" out of your system yet? Good, so have we.

Not that you need any reminding, but his "then wife" is none other than Reese Witherspoon. The pair first met at the actress' 21st birthday party, before immortalizing their romance on-screen as star-crossed lovers in the cult classic Cruel Intentions.

The couple went on to have another child — a son named Deacon — before splitting in 2006, after Phillippe reportedly had an affair with costar Abbie Cornish.

Despite their troubles, Phillippe and Witherspoon have remained amicable, most likely for the sake of their children.

So, what have we learned today? Ryan Phillipe is a really good dad; and we're really, really old.

Happy birthday, Ava. (Us Weekly)

'90s Nostalgia Alert: A Married...With Children Spinoff Is Near

Lock up your daughters, everyone. Bud Bundy is headed back to television. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sony is in the midst of developing a Married...With Children spinoff, that would focus on the Bundy clan's testosterone-addled teen.

With the recent success of Girl Meets World, and the online excitement over the possibility of a Full House reboot, studios are scrambling to capitalize on the very of-the-moment '90s nostalgia phenomenon.

No word yet on whether original cast members Ed O'Neill, Katey Sagal, Christina Applegate, and David Faustino (who played Bud) would appear on the show.

When Married...With Children debuted on FOX in 1987, it instantly became one of the most controversial shows on television — not for the Bundy's beige-soaked living room — but for its raunchy and often politically incorrect humor.

Despite the non-stop array of insults they hurled at one another, some could argue that the Bundys were as representative of the American family as the Cosbys. Just with a lot more mascara.

While we may have to wait some time before we see the Bundy clan together again on screen, they recently came together off it, for Sagal's Walk of Fame ceremony. Could the reunion be a sign of things to come? (The Hollywood Reporter)
