Turns out we might have the designer's newborn son, Alexander John, to thank for his affection for the Big Smoke, and, by extension, his decision to host his eponymous womenswear label's first public catwalk show here next month.
"I hope it works here [in London], because my dream goal is to raise my children here," the 52-year-old told the Times Magazine over the weekend. "I'm very old fashioned. When I was little, I was brought up to say, 'Hello, Mr Ford', 'Hello Mrs so-and-so', 'Sir and ma'am'. I want that for my children. I'm only here 180 days [of the year], but I like the humour, the formality, the manners, the irreverence in England."
Preach it, papa! Ford, who welcomed little Alexander late last year alongside partner Richard Buckley, also revealed that his fall '13 London Fashion Week show will be quite the spectacle.
"[It's] going to be for 500 to 1,000 people," he says. Photographers, bloggers — a regular, real show...The company has jumped and I can no longer service the stores by not showing. So I have to love it and embrace it."
Oh, it won't be so bad — especially if that baby comes out for a runway bow in a mini Tom Ford suit and spectacles. (Times Magazine)
