The holidays are over and the long, dark months of January and February are all we can see on the horizon. So at this point, all we can think of is: "Summer is for wooin' and winter is for boo-in.'" Which means, of course, that settling down with that special someone — or at least igniting winter with the thrill of the chase – is high prio for a lot of urban dwellers. And for young, savvy, connected people, kicking the dating game into high-gear often means joining an online dating community.

According to Buzzfeed, this time of the year (actually: yesterday, January 2, to be exact) marks a 30 to 55-percent increase in online dating registrations.

Culling data from OKCupid, Match.com, and How About We, Buzzfeed figured out that 67 percent of people (that's over two-thirds, guys) have resolved to find love in 2013, and a whopping 82 percent of respondents believe that the holidays are more romantic than other times of the year. The downside to this is that unhappy partners suffer it out through the holidays, with 14 percent of those interviewed waiting through the season before breaking it off.

It sounds like a perfect storm. A new year and a societal emphasis on rejuvenation and resolutions meet the holiday comedown felt by so many (who have all just sat through repeated viewings of It's A Wonderful Life). After so much mistletoe and what feels like an endless slew of engagement announcements, no wonder we all feel a little bit of pressure to "get booin'" in 2013. (Buzzfeed)
