8 Things To Do This Week In L.A.

For those of you who need a break from the holiday madness (don't we all?), we've rounded up a slew of events that'll have you forgetting about the wishlists and to-dos if only for a little bit. Of course, we couldn't help ourselves — we threw in two sales and a très chic store opening for good measure. Because, let's be honest, no matter what time of year, we've always got bargains on the brain!

Get To Know James Dean Before He Was The James Dean
Part documentary, part drama, director Matthew Mishory's A Portrait of James Dean: Joshua Tree, 1951 is all about the iconic actor when he was on the cusp of true stardom. The theater will be hosting screenings of the flick all week, but stop by tomorrow night to join Mishory and the film's producers where they will be sharing their experiences researching one of the most fascinating (and dreamy!) men on the planet.
When: Wednesday, December 12, 7 p.m.

A Trunk Show And Gallery Viewing That'll Get The Creative Juices Flowing
How time flies! Designer Jasmin Shokrian will be celebrating her tenth collection this Thursday with the fine folks at TenOverSix and sculptor Sean Brian McDonald. Come peruse her latest line of architectural apparel (and eye-catching accessories!) while enjoying light refreshments and works from the artist. Both will be on-hand for the event, so get ready to witness some total inspiration in the flesh!

Mohawk Bend Raises The Bar, Yet Again!
Other than your new boho-chic coat, the best way to keep warm this winter season is with a tall glass of brew. And nothing beats cozying up by the fireplace at Mohawk Bend on a chilly winter evening with said beer! This Thursday, the Silver Lake bar has teamed up with The Bruery to host a $15 flight night consisting of some hard-to-find stouts. We're most excited to try the 4 Calling Birds, a spiced and strong dark ale that'll put us in the serious holiday spirit.

Sneak Peek: Get A Glimpse Of Tia Cibani's Premiere Collection
Inspired by Marguerite Duras' novel The Lover, it's safe to say we're not the only ones smitten with Tia Cibani's debut collection. The designer, who left her post at Ports 1961 to focus on personal pursuits (including starting a family), is bringing her wares to Friday night's trunk show and cocktail party at Post 26. Elizabeth Matthews of LACMA and Post 26's stylist-slash-owner Jeannine Braden will be hosting the shindig — so stop by and snag yourself what will quickly became a collector's item (it is her first range, and Style.com named her One To Watch, after all!).

A Delicious Cupcake-Decorating Workshop That'll Satisfy Your Sweet Tooth

So, head on over to the Santa Monica Museum of Art this Saturday for a leather workshop where you'll learn basic leather-craft techniques. For only $8, create wristbands, bracelets, key chains, and other fun, functional items for you or your loved one with artist Justin Dienes, founder of Old North Wind. Time to get crafty, folks!

Snag Aww-Dorable Duds At This Kiddie Pop-Up Shop
Still searching for the perfect present for the wee one on your list? Well, get 'em the gift of ultra-hip clothing and toys at Creatures of Comfort where Nanette Sullano has created waanaki, a temporary shop for children. For ages zero to six, the shop will include new and vintage homewares, wooden toys, and accessories, such as Maricolous quilts by Ashley Thayer and WAKA WAKA children's furniture by Shin Okuda. In conjunction with the pop up, there will be a woodsy exhibit by designer WAKA WAKA — come for adorable duds, stay for the cutest customers ever!

Oh La La! Joie Finally Opens That Brick And Mortar
The greatest French import (right after crêpes, of course!) is Parisienne style. And no brand nails that quite like Joie. The label has just opened its L.A. outpost on Melrose (the other SoCal spot is in Newport Beach), so swing by for effortless tops, perfect party frocks, and a bit of je ne sais quoi!
